Hi,

I recently tried to search for plugins for pycharm and I found two competing ones(with many downloads, recent updates, etc.).

1. Robot Framework Support: https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/7415

They have both a lot of users, but documentation is far from perfect (without trying them both for some time). Do you use some of them? Which one is better? What are their differences? (supported functionality, missing, etc..) It tried to google them, but was not successful in finding any real-life info about them...

Thanks

Lukas

Hi,

This is a very good question. I use PyCharm/IntelliJ as my main Python
editor and thus I'm also interested in Robot Framework support on that
platform. I've tested both of them, but haven't done exhausting
evaluation between them. My Robot data editing needs are also pretty
simple and thus I don't know how they work with bigger projects.
Notice also that in addition to these two, there's also this third
plugin that only support Java based libraries and works on IntelliJ:
https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/7430

My general impression is that both of the listed plugins work fine in
normal usage when using the normal keyword driven approach. The
biggest problem I've encountered is that is that neither of them
supports the data-driven style (test templates) too well. There have
been also various other bigger and smaller issues, but in general I've
been really happy that someone provides this kind of tooling. Instead
of listing the issues here, I think I should try reproducing them
again and submitting issues to issue trackers.

In general it would be better that instead of multiple plugins with
different features (and problems) we'd just have one with more
features (and less problems). Have the developers of these plugins
though would that be feasible? If you would be interested to see if
merging is possible, I can help coordinating the efforts if needed.

Cheers,
.peke

I find myself in the same situation with the same questions. I haven't yet worked with either enough to comment on differences beyond what's provided in their respective documentation and I didn't see additional discussions on the topic in the group. That said, being 2.5yrs after the last comment, I see that the last update for Robot Framework Support was April 11, 2019 and IntelliBot was May 31, 2016.

Is anyone still actively using the IntelliBot or any other plugin (not RFS) and if so, how come?

Best,

Michael

Hi Michael

There is another Intellibot for Pycharm called "IntelliBot @SeleniumLibrary Patched" which the last update date was May 03, 2018, I am currently using this plugin.

I had the same issues and concerns when trying to find a good Robot Framework plugin for PyCharm.

I know it doesn’t answer your question, but I eventually left PyCharm for VSCode which has a well maintained robot framework extension and can basically do everything I needed PyCharm to do but with a lot less bloat. Based on the number of downloads of the VSCode extension when compared to PyCharm’s extensions, it looks like many of us Robot Framework programmers that used PyCharm have moved.

Best of luck,

Jeremy

Hi

Does it support keywords from hybrid libraries?

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but for those still using PyCharm, what's the best current plugin setup?
Currently, I have both "IntelliBot @SeleniumLibrary Patched" and also "Robot Framework Support."

Are both of these compatible or should I give up and switch to VSC?

I use RED editor in Eclipse. I find this to be the best RobotFramework editor there is. I had a lot of issues in PyCharm using the plugins for RobotFramework. Most of the time they did not work correct. Gave errors in case there were none.

Same with me. I use Pycharm as my editor for robot framework, plus Intellibot is my plugins.

Hi,
You can try Red plugin for eclipse built by Nokia.

I am using it and find it very helpful.
