Hi.

I am a newbie in Robot Framework and looking for examples for LTE/VoLTE testing.

Thanks in advantage.

I would 1st look for LTE/VoLTE test automation (options), then see if any have python, or Java (or rather Jython specifically), or .NET (rather specifically IronPython) support (or built on those languages), or if the tools could be callable via an API (REST?) or shell/command line - as those are all integration options for RobotFramework. Could also integrate with other languages like ruby, perl, php, java, .NET if you use the remote server library option.

I suspect there isn't any prebuilt RF library for LTE/VoLTE testing, but I could be wrong since RF came from telecom inspired/funded background. Closest thing I could find were these, which didn't seem helpful:

Hi,

could you give a bit more details/examples of what you want to test, e.g.
a) making calls over LTE/VoLTE with real end devices
and/or
b) protocol testing e.g. simulating/emulating LTE protocols and/or network elements

cheerio,

Hi Jari.

To answer to your questions, I would like to use Robot Framework for testing EPC (MME, S-GW, P-GW, PCRF,...) and IMS.

Tests will include:
  • e2e testing with real modems and UEs (I am thinking to use AT commands in this case, but other suggestions are welcome)
  • single node testing (e.g. emulating GTP interfaces)
I have IxLoad (from Ixia) as a testing tool and it supports some of above cases interfacing with Robot Framework (Ixia is still developing this part).

I know they use Robot to test LTE stuff at Nokia Networks where the framework was developed initially. I don't really know what tools are used with it and how testing works in general, but at least LTE testing ought to be possible.

I would also assume that LTE/VoLTE being telecom carrier/provider (or product) specific, you likely won't get a "public" example of an LTE tests. Best someone will give you is a ballpark description of how testing would be done or some very generic test keyword example.

Hi Stefano,

I'm still wondering a bit what you want to test, because:
  • I have no experience with IxLoad, but it looks like a load testing/traffic modelling tool (= no UEs involved) - but on the other hand you say you want to use real modems and UEs
  • I understand "Emulating GTP interfaces" so that you don't have radio environment available - but on the other hand you say you want to use real UEs
So, if you could provide a bit more info what you want to do I might be able to help you get started.
I have been involved in couple of projects where we have automated real UEs (CS,PS, EPS) for mobile operators in their labs.

Hi Jari.

A scenario I am trying to set up uses real UEs for EPC and IMS (VoLTE/ViLTE) testing.

I was able to create some basic libraries for controlling real UEs via serial connection (AT commands), but if I can get some examples to use reference/inspiration it will really help.

Hi All,

does anyone have the LTE or VoLTE related any automation script?

Thanks in advance.
