I was watching an episode (well, actually a marathon) of the Twilight Zone recently and noticed that in the one where the guy is imprisoned on a desert planet with only a female robot to keep him company, everyone kept saying "rubut" instead of "robot"..  At first I thought the guy was just Canadian but then another guy said it the same way.  Maybe that's just the way people used to pronounce "robot" before it was a commonly used word - I think the same thing happened with "nuclear."
