Hello Guys,
Hope you are well. Tomorrow late night, I am leaving India to
pursue masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia
Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA. I really enjoyed my time at SRM
Team Robocon. I learned a lot, met all you awesome people. I hope I
have contributed something to our team as well, even though it might
be small. Robocon was the best thing that happened to me in college.
If anyone has any doubts or needs help in applying for masters outside
India, please feel free to contact me. I will guide you to the best of
my knowledge.

I wanted to give you my suggestion. This is also from my internship
experience in Honeywell.

1) The maintenance of inventory is absolutely important. There are
actual jobs in automobile industry which deals with inventory
management. If a mechanical student says that he has experience in
inventory management, it could get him a few internships. I suggest a
mechanical guy is put in charge of all inventory (including
electronics). He should know at any point of time, the location and
quantity of the components. If something goes missing, it is this
person's responsibility to take care of it. If possible, create an
electronic record of when things are taken out, when they are put back
and the quantity of an item.

2) After robocon '14, people who will take part in the next
competitions will be completely new. They will have no idea what was
done in Robocon '11 or '12. I sincerely request you guys to make a
thorough documentation of Robocon' 14. This should include models you
tried discussing, why they were not implemented, which prototypes
worked, reasons you stuck with the design, schematics, soft copies of
the programs and designs. Because once the current 4th years move out,
the next generation of SRM Team Robocon will have an experience
depletion. This void is filled by the documentation. Not only this, if
you submit a copy of the documentation to the director, he will keep
having a reason to fund you. Also, if you send a soft copy to your
seniors, you will get a feedback on what can possibly be done to
rectify some problems in the bots. They will fill you in with their
experience.

Of course, this is only my thoughts on the matter, and every decision
taken in robocon should be done as a team effort. If you feel this
won't work out, then take steps accordingly. I have included my
thoughts in the mail so that it reaches everyone who has ever been a
part of robocon. Hope you excel in whatever things you guys do! All
the best for your future.
