I have a question about Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables. I understand in general that I - a complete amateur - should not remove them. But - there are 7 all of which were installed when I bought the computer in Nov 2012 - with one exception. That one exception was installed (installed itself) eleven months later and it was installed on the day and at the time when I unknowingly downloaded a virus-filled program. Most of the program I got rid of but a pop-up window for SpeedAnalysis keeps reappearing, Would it be safe to remove that one redistributable ("...2008 Redistributable - x86 9.021022)? Is it connected with the virus pop-up?

Every Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable is digitally signed. If it was altered, the system would let you know. That said, it is possible for your system to be compromised in a way that causes it to bypass the digital signature check. If your system is infected, though, it's unlikely to be the Redistributable itself, but another program.

Do note that %VCINSTALLDIR% only works in the Visual Studio Developer Command Prompt. That should be located under the Visual Studio XXXX folder in your start menu or it can be launched directly from inside visual studio. You can then enter

The easiest way to locate the redistributable files is by using environment variables set in a developer command prompt. In Visual Studio 2022, the redistributable files are in the %VCINSTALLDIR%Redist\MSVC\v143 folder. In the latest version of Visual Studio 2019, you'll find the redistributable files in the %VCINSTALLDIR%Redist\MSVC\v142 folder. In both Visual Studio 2017 and Visual Studio 2019, they're also found in %VCToolsRedistDir%. In Visual Studio 2015, these files can be found in %VCINSTALLDIR%redist, where is the locale of the redistributable packages.

%VCINSTALLDIR% is set by the command prompts of all Visual Studio version, but the value will differ between Visual Studio variants. You can install multiple versions of Visual Studio side by side on the same computer.

I am trying to upgrade my ArcGIS 10.8 to 10.8.1. Once the installation starts the error (see attached image) shows up. However, I have installed and reinstall the missing Microsoft redistributable package.

Microsoft redistributable runtime dlls vs2005 sp1 x86 error. The vs2005 doesn't appear in the program files after the install as it does on my other installs. I have attempted to uninstall and reinstall several times and receiving the above error all times. I located a similar issue at that someone had with the install of v7.1. I attempted all of the recommendation of the SvenDoernfeld post and was not successful. I could use some direction in my next steps and interested to know if there is any prerequisites that I may be missing or a manual install available? Thank u - Ron.

Beyond the error message, even if I select "update later" Acid has stopped working properly. I can play a track I've already assembled, but I can't change anything in it - volume repositioning, effects, etc - or it crashes. Once I start playing the track, if I hit stop, it crashes. This just started today. It was working fine other than refusing to update until now.

I just purchased Acid 10 to upgrade and upon installation. I'm having the same issues. I'm kind of surprised that no one has responded to this thread (and it's been quite some time). Did you ever resolve this issue?

None of this worked for me. What did work was employing a little trick I learned a long time ago but forgot. When you get to the "INSTALL" Visual C++ thing... hold the CTRL button down and then click the INSTALL button.. then it will go through without a problem.

I just wanted to say that, new update, same error. Like sheppo said above, I think there's some code that needs to be fixed and would appreciate it if Magix could take better care with the software we must love, cause we keep subjecting ourselves to this absolute nonsense.

I've tried all of the above, and even from the links from here (acid pro 8 failed) to other links at microsoft, etc... nothing seem to work for me with Update errors for ACID, in this case AMS11, but had same with AP10 and AP11 last year....

Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable is an installer for Microsoft C and C++ runtime libraries. Many apps, programs, and games created using these two languages require the installation of these libraries to function correctly. The Visual C++ architecture installed must match the application's architecture to be run.

Sometimes, when installing a very recent game, it may not work. Most games usually include several additional installation packages, but sometimes they don't. When you download them from gaming platforms such as Steam, these redistributables are usually automatically installed on your computer.

If you've had Windows installed on your computer for several years, you will likely see redistributables installed from different years and versions, such as 2010, 2013, 2015, and 2022. This is because there are programs designed to work with a specific version of these libraries. Here at Uptodown, we offer downloads for the latest available versions for both 32- and 64-bit, taking into account that many are no longer supported.

Uptodown is a multi-platform app store specialized in Android. Our goal is to provide free and open access to a large catalog of apps without restrictions, while providing a legal distribution platform accessible from any browser, and also through its official native app.

I have been having problems with HotMail. Slow, cursor misbehaves, and lots of connection problems. Last night I removed all the Windows Live aps and installed Chrome. Now HotMail is much more responsive and the connection issues have vanished. It was not a disk space issue. It was a performance issue. Maybe other readers have had the same experience with the Windows Live programs.

If you use a lot of popular free apps, you can go to ninite.com and select the programs you want. Doing that downloads a ninite.exe installer. Every time you run ninite.exe, it checks which programs need to be updated and updates them. If you save that program along with your backups, you can run it on your newly refreshed system of install them on a different computer. That saves a lot of time. Some of the popular programs it can download are VLC, Firefox, Chrome, Thunderbird, Libre and Oppen Office, TeamViewer and about 100 more. And they strip out any PUPs which may be included with some freeware.

Thank you for the article describing what the C++ Redistributables do. I have some knowledge of C++ programming but not a lot and I was confused why anything needed updating since C++ programs are compiled to CPU instructions, but now I understand.

I believe they are all independent libraries because they are only installed when they are needed. Including them all in one file would, in many cases, take up more space than only installing the libraries as needed.

Hello Leo, just wanted to leave a message about the ad in this page. I use Adblock Plus and that ad, the look and feel of it, is amazing.
I am not being facetious, I have that adblocker to block big blinking eye catching banners, popups and I only hope the ads of tomorrow will take cues from yours.

I would like remove the VC++ 2005 redistributable because of Qualys Scan. Everytime i uninstall and reboot it, in the next day it shows up again. We have SQL Servers , .nets softs, Visual Studio in that server. We need to get rid of that becasue it is a level 5 vulnerability. Any ideas how to uninstall it. Thanks

hi I have more than one of the same Visual C++ Redistributable programs on my computer the only differences that I can see are the last 11numbers. Same year and everything. Can any of them be uninstalled?

Absolutely BRILLIANTLY answered, Leo, thank you!I cannot tell you how many times this question has come up in my mind going back many years. Now I have the perspective.Keep up the excellent work!Dorian

As for a Chromebook, many people are concerned about the amount of data Google stores on their users. This may or may not be a problem for you.
If you want to switch from Windows, Linux is a good alternative. One advantage of Linux is that you can install it on your existing computer without having to buy a new one.

Cakewalk relies on a proper installation of various Microsoft runtime libraries for several components (as do many other Windows programs). You can read more about the Microsoft redistributables here.
While the Cakewalk application only uses the latest runtime libraries, there are other components and plugins that may utilize earlier libraries. Hence the Cakewalk installer additionally installs some of the older versions of these libraries that are used by certain known modules and plugins.

Occasionally the Microsoft runtime libraries installation may get damaged by installing other programs (or even Windows update itself!) by installing incompatible components or removing necessary runtime components that are required for proper operation of Cakewalk. If this happens. the typical symptoms are crashes or hangs on starting Cakewalk or opening a project.
