Iwas having a look at the 3dsmax.ini file in order to try to standardize the max settings on everybodies computer. In general it would work out fine if i would copy it over to other computers so that people would have the same settings as on my computer.
But i am running into a problem now. The users that are loged in with a different username get errors when using my ini file. This because severall paths in the ini file are set to my username instead of their name.
I was also thinking of setting the useUserProfiles to 0.
Loocas Duber also pointed out to me that i could use 3ds max command-line swith to include a other ini file. So i guess either way i should be able to figure out a way of implementing a centralized ini.
don't know anyway around this....i downloaded the trial version of max9, installed it...it has been working fine till yesterday..when the environment/effects dialog went awol...i have tried restarting max over n over...but it just doesn't appear....even tried using the keyboard shortcut...n io need to control my exposure contols/environment... any tips...my trial days are running out...[in tears]...was beginning to enjoy mr3.5
thanks man...tried to reload default CUI...didn't solve the problem...didn't see any 3dsmax.ini in the max9 folder....would it be wrong if u could sent yours to me...or do you have any other solutions....
Sending my '3dsmax' file will not help you, because i am running version 8. I have not used 9 yet, so i am assuming that the file has the same name - it might be possible that the location has changed, so try running a search for it in windows. (By the way the '.ini' is the file extention, not part of the actual name).
When you go to 'rendering>environment' does the top bar of the max window turn gray? if so, the window is open but hidden (this happens to me with adobe apps all the time) press alt+spacebar, press the down arrow once, then press enter, then without moving the mouse, click and hold the left mouse button and move your mouse around until you see the window.
i found that all menus that are moved onto a second screen when working on two screens stays on the second screen if you unplug the second one. Then, the only way to get it back is to plug in the second one again and move the menus back!
If you go into widows display properties - identify, find out what number your screen/s is. Its probably 1 or 2. Then, select the required menu in max. Then hit (i think) ctl+alt+1, or ctl+alt+2 (depending what your screen number is. The selected floater will centre to the screen number. I havnt done this for a long time, but i lost a bunch of menus when i was on-site with my laptop (multiple monitors unplugged) and i started up max when not re-configured to one screen. It worked then (max8 win xp) but i forget what the controls were. If you figure it out, post the answer!
just completely delete 3dsmax.ini out of your program directly. I work on two screens as work and when i log in from home sometimes I can't see a dialog. So I just cut the .ini out and drop it on my desktop. When max loads and can't find the .ini it just loads it's default values and recreates the file for you. (basically the same as reinstalling) You'll get everything back in the initial locations on screen.
nice thing is you can use that .ini to store and take your prefs with. Such that when I get back in the office after removing it from the directory. I just take it off my desktop and put it back, and all is back to normal.
eventually found it....apparently autodesk changed the position of the .ini file...its now in a hidden folder C:\doc and settings\computer name\local settings\ application data\autodesk\... hope this helps someone....for me i think i have abt 10days to go....thanks guys
The default Maximum Priority value is 100, but it can be modified via the Deadline Monitor in SuperUser Mode under Configure Repository Options > Job Settings section > Job Scheduling tab > Submission Limitations group > Maximum Job Priority.
The first job will have [PREVIEW FRAMES] added to its name, have a priority equal to the main job priority setting combined with the value of the Priority+ setting (see next setting), and will render only N frames based on the #Frames value.
The second job will have [REST OF FRAMES] added to its name, can be dependent on the first job to start rendering once the preview frames job has finished, and/or can be suspended to require manual approval by the user. It will have the Priority specified by the Priority slider, and will render all frames not included in the preview job.
Suspended - the [REST OF FRAMES] Job will be submitted in Suspended state, allowing the user to look at the Preview frames before manually resuming the rest of the rendering if everything looks good.
The individual Frames take a very short time - this way, 3ds Max can process multiple Frames in a row without the need from the Worker to communicate with the Repository and make scheduling decisions.
The total number of Frames is higher than the Maximum Task number specified in the Repository settings (default limit is 5000). For example, rendering 10000 frames with a limit of 5000 would be possible without changing the Repository settings if the Task Chunk Size is set to 2.
For example, you can render a rough animation containing evey Nth frame early enough to detect any major issues before all frames have been rendered, or in cases where the major action happens in the end of the sequence, reverse the rendering order.
This is a SDK function we execute which can help suppress some popups that 3ds Max displays (although some non-native popups like to ignore this setting such as VRay). However, we also explicitly support the VRay Silent Mode setting in this case. For further automatic handling via our Deadline Plugin API, please see our sections on Stdout Handling and Popup Ignorers / Handlers in our Scripting API documentation.
When the checkbox is checked and one or more jobs have been selected from the multi-list box, the job will be set to Pending state and will start rendering when all jobs it depends on have finished rendering. Use the Get JobsList button to populate the Job List and the Filter options with job data from the Repository.
SAVE and Submit Current Scene File to GLOBAL NETWORK PATH - The current scene will be saved to a temporary file which will be copied to a Globally-Defined Alternative Network Location (e.g. dedicated file server). It is specified in [Repository]\submission\3dsmax\Main\SubmitMaxToDeadline_Defaults.ini under [UserOptions] as the SubmitSceneGlobalBasePath key. It will be referenced by the Job via its path only. This will reduce the load on the Repository server.
SAVE and Submit Current Scene File to USER-DEFINED NETWORK PATH - The current scene will be saved to a temporary file which will be copied to a User-Defined Alternative Network Location (e.g. dedicated file server) stored as a local setting. It will be referenced by the Job via its path only. This will reduce the load on the Repository server.
You can offload a V-Ray, Corona or Mental Ray DBR job to Deadline by enabling the Distributed Rendering option in your V-Ray, Corona or Mental Ray settings, and by enabling the V-Ray/Mental Ray/Corona DBR checkbox in the submission dialog. With this option enabled, a job will be submitted with its task count equal to the number of Workers you specify, and it will render the current frame in the scene file.
If you wish for your DBR jobs to start rendering immediately after task 0 is picked up by the master Worker, then Dynamic Start for V-Ray or Auto-start local Worker for V-Ray RT needs to be enabled in the Plug-in Configuration of the 3dsmax or 3dsCmd plugin depending on which render plugin you are submitting your off-load DBR jobs to.
It is recommended to setup V-Ray DBR, Corona DR or Mental Ray DBR for 3ds Max and verify it is working correctly prior to submitting a DBR off-load job to Deadline. RTT (Render To Texture) is not supported with distributed bucket rendering. If running multiple Deadline Workers on one machine, having these 2 or more Workers both pick up a different DBR job concurrently as either master or Worker is not supported.
Ensure all Workers can correctly access any mapped drives or resolve all UNC paths to obtain any assets required by the 3ds Max scene file to render successfully. Use the Deadline Mapped Drives feature to ensure the necessary drive mappings are in place.
Ensure you have sufficient V-Ray DR licenses if processing multiple V-Ray DBR jobs through Deadline concurrently. Use the Deadline Limits feature to limit the number of licenses being used at any time.
Ensure the necessary V-Ray executables & TCP/UDP ports have been allowed to pass-through the Windows Firewall. Please consult the V-Ray user manual or V-Ray Spawner Port Configuration documentation for more information.
The Mental Ray Satellite service must be running on your Worker machines. It is installed by default during the 3ds Max 2014 or earlier installation. Note that ADSK changed this default from 3dsMax 2015 onwards and the Mental Ray Satellite Service is installed as part of the install process but is NOT automatically started, so you will need to start it manually the very first time. See this AREA blog post about Distributed Bucket Rendering in 3ds Max 2015.
In the above screenshot, the Preview dialog was set to highlight in red paths longer than 150 characters (the default is 260 characters). The V-Ray VFB was disabled to allow the individual Render Elements to generate their own output. A single frame 0 was requested.
When this checkbox is checked, changes to the Render Elements paths will be permanent (in other words after the submission, all paths will point at the new locations created for the job). When unchecked, the changes will be performed temporarily during the submission, but the old path names will be restored right after the submission.
