I am considering taking some beginning paddlers out on Thursday. Is
the section from the takeout for the Slaughterhouse section down a
miles about class II at these levels? Any other suggestions would be
appreciated. I am a strong paddler and rescue boater, but new to the
area so I don't have any local knowledge. Thanks in advance.

I dont really know that area either since I dont really have anyone to explore with. I would say its getting low for rolling practice and watch out for strainers. You might want to try pink to black in cdale in stead? But the ramp is closed to boat access due to political crap for a few weeks? I found the canyon below shoshone to two rivers nice and deep and mellow for rolling practice on the CO. Good luck and let me know how it turns out. Id love to go out with you and explore if you are interested!!
