This first time event is free for youth and includes two days of climate solutions education, inspiration, relationship building and climate action planning. We want this to become an annual program for youth in Colorado; so it needs to be full of energy this first time.
You, as an adult can help the most by mentoring youth to apply and offering to chaperone a group to the Summit. This is the biggest need.
In case you're wondering, what is a Youth Climate Summit; here's a
video from The Wild Center to give you a taste of what our Colorado Summit may feel and look like. There are a few other videos added to the Outreach Toolkit doc you can use with interested folks.
Here's how you can support this event being successful and impactful for rural Colorado youth:
- Encouraging and mentor interested high school youth to apply to participate in this first annual free Summit by March 1st. Use our Youth Climate Summit Outreach Toolkit to spread the word. It's complete with sample language, posts, announcements, printable flier and graphics to help get the word out to both high school youth and young adult (19+ years) volunteers about the Summit.
- Chaperone and drive a van load of youth to the event; we'll offer you mileage reimbursement. All youth must attend with a 6:1 ratio of youth to chaperones. Not all chaperones need to be teachers.
- Volunteer for the Summit - details on website link above; if you chaperone a group you could also have additional Summit volunteer roles since you would be in attendance.
I've also added a new image in the Outreach Toolkit to use with your messaging.
Thank you for encouraging your youth to participate! Feel free to have any of them contact me with any questions.
Best,
Sarah
