Hello fellow educators, community leaders, and friends,

The first annual Colorado Youth Climate Summit happening in Carbondale May 2-3, 2025. The 2 day learning experience is an interactive, high-energy conference co-led by youth, allowing teens to explore climate change science, impacts, and solutions across Colorado. The summit encourages meaningful discussions and involvement from young people, sustainability experts, and policymakers. Through problem-based learning, the youth will develop unique climate action plans which they can put to work in their schools and communities while fostering resilience, critical thinking, and leadership skills crucial to being citizens of the world and their future roles in the modern workforce.

Here's how you can support this event being successful and impactful for rural Colorado youth:

  • Encouraging interested high school youth to apply to participate in this first annual free Summit by March 1st. Use our Youth Climate Summit Outreach Toolkit to spread the word. It's complete with sample language, posts, announcements, printable flier and graphics to help get the word out to both high school youth and young adult (19+ years) volunteers about the Summit.
  • Chaperone and drive a van load of youth to the event; we'll offer you mileage reimbursement. All youth must attend with a 6:1 ratio of youth to chaperones. Not all chaperones need to be teachers.
  • Volunteer for the Summit  - details on website link above; if you chaperone a group you could also have additional Summit volunteer roles since you would be in attendance.
And, we need more workshop and speaker proposals (ideal deadline of Feb. 7th). In addition to adults and young adults, if you know a high school youth who would like to propose to lead an activity or workshop, please have them do so very soon. We are especially looking for workshops on these topics:
  • How to establish and run an effective school/community youth green team or club
  • Institutional composting - how to make it happen in your school or organization
  • Climate Poetry/Slam Poetry/Music
  • Visual Arts and Climate action
  • How to create and run a podcast
  • How to interact with local and state policy makers/elected officials effectively
Thank you so much for all your work toward climate action education and community engagement!

Best,
Sarah

PS - if you want hard copies of the new federal Climate Literacy document you can order them here. I do highly recommend downloading and ordering the docs before January 20th.

Hi, Sarah! I’m happy to help but am wondering how and what you think would be the best use of my time and talents?

Exciting to see this all come together!

Always,
Nikki
