When Google agreed to buy the power from Rocky Forge Wind, opening the door to construction, we celebrated the coming of Virginia's first wind farm. When Google bought 312 acres of Greenfield Industrial Center it became clear that data centers are coming to our area. The Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club recently released an in-depth study into the tremendous challenges of data centers. The web site of the
Roanoke Group now includes this document and I'm convinced you'll want to read it.

Thanks, Dan! Blue Ridge Land Conservancy is also glad that the proposed data center would use wind energy and is located in an area already zoned industrial. The piece hanging out there now is water supply from Carvins Cove. Cardinal News had a good story about it

Thank you both Dan and Diana for your very informative and important information. I was aware of many of the negative environmental impacts of all these data centers (plus the increased energy costs being passed on to consumers) and am increasingly alarmed after learning more details.

I would encourage everyone to go to the SCVA website, either directly or from the link provided in Dan's email to send messages to our Congressmen. For anyone such as myself who might take awhile to figure out where to go, on the home page click on either "People Still Have Power/Act Now"  or "Our Issues and Campaigns/ Learn More". Then scroll down through the various "Action" links to find either "Tell Decision-Makers: Don't Let Data Centers Put Virginia's Future a Risk" or "Tell Decision-Makers: Press Pause on Unchecked Data Center Development" or both. Fill in your standard personal info and add an optional comment. (I'm not sure which one I used, but I might go back again.) Hopefully, enough public pressure will get some action, at least at the state level after the Nov elections.🤞
