The original Mountain Valley Pipeline plan (2014) included a noisy,
polluting compression station in Roanoke or Montgomery county. After the
county boards of supervisors in both counties voted to oppose the
project, they withdrew that part of the plan. However, many of us
suspected they would come back with it, and now they have. The
attachment has a map with the approximate location.
The sorry "MVP" joke continues, with the proposed additional compressor
station to be named after old Pittsburgh Steeler MVP Lynn Swann.
This reminds me of a private meeting with had with MVP officials here in
Salem in June 2017 to discuss impact on the Appalachian Trail with our
volunteers and staff from ATC, NPS and USFS. The meeting became very
heated regarded visual impacts, and at lunch time the MVP PR guy
suggested that we all sit with people from the other side and talk about
"something we can all agree on, like the Steelers." They apparently
think SW Virginia is a suburb of Pittsburgh. This did not go over well.
