Good Morning,

About 18 residents attended the meeting along with the project team. I had 'regrets' from several people for which thank you.

The Gatesville/Quarterdeck Road problem was the focus of the meeting, which was somewhat tortuous and sometimes heated. The basic situation is:

1) The road to Muizenberg will not be closed, so traffic will continue to flow through the Gatesville route.
2) It is acknowledged that policing would help but the project team has no say in the allocation of resources, so we can assume that more policing will not happen
3) Various options for improving the situation were considered. In the end, by a show of hands, it was agreed that a stop/go system controlled by temporary traffic lights, would be put in place at the Anderson/Gatesville and Gatesville/Belmont intersections.

This was felt to be the best viable option. It should regulate the flow of traffic in both directions and may deter people using this as a through route.

It was confirmed that work on the Main Road to Clairvaux should be finished by the first week in July. At that time the Main Road will revert to a two way road

Best wishes
Steve

Thank you for co-ordinating that, Steve and Judy!

Interesting that our ward councillor left with a "humpf" after Judy pointed out that he hadn't been at all helpful when approached. I have brought this to the attention of the DA.

Hi, Steve,

Sorry I failed to make it last night but I was unable to get away from work in time, the 17.30 starting time made it difficult to leave work in time. Paul

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the conditions on Gatesville seem to have settled down - less traffic, hooting and snarl-ups? If so, I could live with this until July

Best

HI Helen,

Yes, I have noticed it too.

I guess it is the turning of the season with fewer visitors?

Makes me wonder if the automated stop and go would still be useful, hinder some even?

We have also noticed it- perhaps you are right and it is the season. (or the end thereof)
Let's see whether anyone else comments and take it from there

So should we tell Chand that we can live with things as they are? I agree with Madelein that the stop-and-go might be more hassle

I don't think we should be too hasty. We've got a long weekend coming up - I'd have preferred the system to be in place by then, actually. The stop/go shouldn't be a hassle - it'll be regulated by traffic volumes.

I also haven’t had any problems recently, so happy to leave things as they are. Thanks all for your efforts and energy. Jessica

Our vote goes with not having the stop/go, as the traffic has both diminished and seems to have settled down to an acceptable pattern.

My guess is that introducing a new variable is just going to stir up the mud while everyone gets used to it. As tax payers we will end up paying for it as well.

Many thanks

I am not in the thick of the problem, but agree that with the end of the ‘season’ maybe we should just grin and bear it until the end of July, and also think a ’stop and go’ might create more difficulties...  Dorci.

Having just got back from an overseas trip the road does seem eerily quiet now, but I must take issue with the shop formerly known as Hennies being turned into yet another coffee shop slash restaurant. Is marie antoinette doing the local market research or something? God forbid we should have an ATM and somewhere to buy milk.

/off topic rant

Thanks Helen, clearly I am misinformed. Everyone I've asked has told be restaurant slash cafe. When Hennies shut down I immediately assumed Pick n' Pay or Spar would be in there in a flash. The new place turned out to be even less well-stocked than it's predecessor. But based on your link we will soon no longer be forced to choose between driving to Fish Hoek and subsistence farming.
