An altercation
between people in two vehicles late Monday escalated when a passenger in one
opened fire at a Glendale intersection, fatally hitting the driver of the other
car, authorities said.
Glendale police say that Jermaine Turner, 19, was
shot several times as his Chevrolet and a SUV came to a stop at a red light at
67th and Olive avenues about 11 p.m.
Turner was taken to a north Phoenix
hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Officer Michael Peña, a Glendale
police spokesman.
Passengers in
Turner's vehicle told authorities that shots were fired after an altercation
with three to four men in a dark-colored Suburan or Tahoe-like SUV, Peña
said.
The SUV then ran the red traffic signal and continued north on
67th, he added.
To offer information about the homicide, phone Glendale
police at
