ROHNERT PARK MAN ARRESTED AFTER ROAD RAGE INCIDENT 05/07/05 11:25 PDT ROHNERT PARK (BCN) A minor collision between two vehicles in Rohnert Park escalated into an incident of road rage today, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety reported. William T. Tompkins, 47, of Rohnert Park, was arrested on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon or instrument by means of force likely to cause great bodily injury for allegedly ramming his Jeep Liberty on purpose into a Nissan Sentra that had just side-swiped his Jeep. Tompkins was driving west on East Cotati Avenue at Bodway Parkway around 8:42 a.m. when a Nissan swiped the driver's side of his Jeep, police reported. Tompkins told police that the driver of the Nissan continued west on East Cotati Avenue leading him to believe that the driver was fleeing the scene. Tompkins caught up with the Nissan and rammed its driver's side door with the passenger side of his car. The impact caused the Nissan to hit the curb and come to rest on the side of the roadway, police reported. The driver of the Nissan told investigators that she was looking for a safe place to pull over when Tompkins' car rammed her car. Neither party requested medical attention at the scene. Tompkins was booked into the Sonoma County jail with bail set at $20,000.
