6NEWS George Brown Jr. is in intensive care at Carolinas
Medical Center.
A victim of road rage is in intensive care Wednesday, the suspect on the loose. The victim wasn't alone in the car when the incident happened along Interstate 85 near Sugar Creek.
"He wanted to come home when it first happened if his girlfriend had not talked him into going they say he would have died in an hour," said George Brown the victim’s father.
George Brown Jr. spent the day in Neurological Intensive Care at Carolinas Medical Center.
Tuesday, he and his girlfriend Jennifer were driving along Sugar Creek and I-85 when some guys pulled alongside....they thought to ask directions.
"George pulled up and asked them what do you want and he started laughing at the hood scoop on his car and they flipped fingers and then they started throwing stuff at us,” Jennifer Way said.
That was not the end of it. The suspects followed them and hit George's car with an object. When George got out and looked at the damage the suspects threw a wrench at him.
"He turned around and the wrench was stuck right here hanging out of his head," Way said.
"Going 55 to 60 miles per hour throwing a wrench, that's like hitting him with a gun that's like shooting somebody," George Brown said.
Jennifer said she tried to help him on the scene by pulling the wrench out but was unable to do so.
"Well I pulled it pretty hard and he turned I could not get it he put his hand over it and pulled it out real hard," Way said.
Police have not caught up with the suspects.
"He's got to be charged with something. Who is next? That could have been a lady driving with kids in the car," George Brown said.
Hospital officials tell us George Brown Jr. is in serious condition. Doctors expect him to make a complete recovery.
