Watermelon Slim

I was perusing the nominees for the 2007 Blues Music Awards and was
struck by how many nominations Watermelon Slim has received.

Album of the Year
Band of the Year
Song of the Year ("Hard Times")
Traditional Blues Album of the Year
Traditional Blues Male Artist of the Year

This is really an unprecedented number of nominations, given the small
overall number of awards (25). He and his band are nominated for 20%
of the awards.

Outstanding. Had you heard of Watermelon Slim before you heard him on
The Roadhouse?

Hi Tony,

Don't remember when exactly you played the first Watermelon Slim or
actually hearing his music played anywhere but I do remember first
thinking about and recognizing Watermelon Slim's music hearing an
interview done by Beardo of Bandana Blues for the Northern Records
podcast (http://feeds.feedburner.com/northernblues). The create date
on my downloaded podcast is 12/30/05.

Now that you mention it, I think the first time I heard Watermelon
Slim might have been in Beardo's Bandana Blues podcast. I had to be
right around that same time. I think that must have been one of the
first podcasts he did with Northern Blues, too.
