Hi Tony,
I'm a young and keen will-be radio host from Poland just about to
start a podcast on modern rock music for my fellow Poles. Yet there is
this question I can't find an exhaustive answer to. Maybe you as an
experienced podcast maker can tell me what permissions I need to have
to broadcast full songs of modern bands. Do I need any whatsoever?
Hope you could help me...
Regards,
Jeeez

I secure written permissions from the labels whose artists I want to
include in the show. Most are more than happy to provide them.

And, as long as you're working with the labels, most artists are glad
yo have their music played. I've only ever had one artist raise an
exception to playing his music in the show.

I see. It doesn't sound hard... But can a simple positive email stand
for a written permission or does it have to be an officially signed
scan or fax or something like that? And is it obligatory to ask an
artist for authorization when the label has given it to you already?

I take email. As I noted, it's extremely rare to have an issue with am
artist.
