Adding a pin always shows address, not location name

When adding a pin, either Route or POI, if you search by a location name the street address is shown on the pin, not the location name. For example, say you search and find the following

Joe’s Diner
123 Main Street
Middletown, America

Great - add that, but the label will show the “123 Main Street …” and not “Joe’s Diner” which is what I at least would prefer since the address is useless except in the printed itinerary I take with us. The first thing I almost always have to do with a pin is change the pin name to the location name - “Joe’s Diner” in this case. And unfortunately it appears the name “Joe’s Diner” is entirely lost, AFAIK it’s not saved anywhere.

Suggestion; could you add an option in preferences to use either street address or location name as the default pin name for newly created pins? Thanks -

I think this is a worthy request too as I frequently change the name of a pin to reflect either the name or town.
So if I pick a spot on the route and it shows for example 1257 Murray Street, Zehan. I’d change it to just Zehan so it is the town name on my route or the POI if that is the name that is most relevant to me.

This is iPhone/iPad.

Yeah,  in the map view which is a summary, I think the location name is most important. Anyhow the address gets cut off at the end, and it is still stored in the pin details. "Drill down into the details" use case, I don't think it makes sense to have details at the top level.

I’m not clear how you’re adding a pin.  Are you tapping the + button, select Route or POI Pin, and then tapping one of the choices below? If so, which choice? Where are you searching by location?

Sorry - yes by Address. Example ...

Say I choose the first one, ideally the pin name is "Badlands National Park" with the address in the pin details screen

OK, did that, added a pin and then renamed it as shown below. What is the next step that creates a problem?
Thanks,
Bill

OK, I think we have a bug then! This is what I get

Badlands.jpeg.png

I don’t normally show the coordinates but it looks like you do above so I added it. I also normally show the time from the previous pin, but turned that off also, but it still shows the address as you see. Seems like some setting I have is borking this ..

That’s also what I get, but I renamed the pin to something more readable.
If you tap the (i) button to the left of the address, you’ll get a hint on how to rename the pin. That’s what I did.

No Bill - that's exactly what this request is about. For every single pin I have to manually rename it, why doesn't RTP automatically use the name for the pin name, with the address in the details? I think most people want to use the name of the location, if available, instead of the address for the pin name, it only makes sense.

OK, I see, good input. I’ll see what I can do.
Thanks,
