I'm guessing that this error is due to those idiots at Apple (or whoever controls their Maps software) thinking that currently, as it is basically winter, many routes through the Alps are impassable. But I'm planning a trip in July which is plainly obvious due to the dates associated with each pin. Is there any way to tell Apple's Servers to NOT mess with my routes and simply plot what's required, ignoring any current weather issues?

Is it just me who is sick and tired of software developers (Apple, not Modesitt) thinking they're so clever by adding in these 'helpful' features yet just getting it hopelessly wrong? My old paper road maps don't change according to the season. I can look at them and plan a summer route in the dead of winter without any such stupid errors.

To be fair to Apple though, Google do the same thing.

Yes, it’s Apple, or by extension, Tom Tom who provides the maps.  However, I noticed if I route using the MapQuest web site, there’s an option to “ignore current road conditions.”  A simple option, one I wish Apple provided.  Please tell Apple to allow that option as well by using their feedback site: <http://www.apple.com/feedback/maps_mac.html>.

If you’re interested, try routing with the attached file.  Apple reports the “directions not available" error. Select Google Map from the RTP File menu, and Google will route it.  Then click on 90 days from now, and the route changes to a summer route.  Nice!  Ironically Apple Maps takes dates as input also, but it doesn’t seem to affect their routing ability.  I think it’s just used for traffic conditions throughout the day, not for seasonal changes unfortunately.

The bottom line, the more people that tell Apple about this, the more likely they should listen.

Thanks,
Bill
