File transfer Mac to iPhone

I've been using Road Trip Planner for years,  took a hiatus for a while, but now I'm in need of its capabilities again, but I've tried multiple ways to send the files I create on a Mac desktop to my iPhone with no luck getting them to the iPhone.  Although, a couple of times, not sure how it got there but it didn't look like they used to in the file area of the mobile Trip Planner app.  But when I tried to open any of the ones that did show up in the files section I get an error, File can't be opened Error.

I have the latest version from the Apple App Store.

Quick question on this topic. I was planning on saving the RTP file on iCloud and doing the edits from there. After the edits are done, and if I have the iOS version using the iCloud file, do I need to reopen on iCloud or will it see changes and automatically re-read?

All iOS RTP files are local, so you’ll need to import the new version to replace the old.

Bill:   I have a long time user and bounce back and forth between two Mac with different OS.  I have a similar question, but the difference is like this.   Will a newly route & map file created on a 32 bit OS Mac under Version 4.6.08 (183) and saved to Icloud be readable by a 64 bit OS on a newer Mac running the older 32 bit software or must it be read by RTP 4.8.4 (134) to be sucessfully changed and corrected as needed.    I seem to be having issue with the files and sometimes they appear "ghosted" and not readable.  Just wondering.   Thanks  John B

Hi John,

Yes, there can be issues if an older RTP app reads the file created by a newer RTP app. Newer version files tend to have more data, data that the older app is not aware of and doesn’t know how to handle it so errors can occur.

One possibility is to export the data as a GPX file and then import it into the other RTP. Not all data is exported as GPX but it may help.

Thank you.   I did notice several difference with RTP and I must admit “like an old pair of gloves,” the older 32 bit version of Road Trip Planner worked well for me.   You spent a great deal of you life with this software and I thank you.   A learning curve, but change is change.
