When routing with Road Trip Planner and you get an error message stating something like “Directions not available” or “Directions not available due to road conditions,” it’s due to how Apple Maps works.
Large number of route pins.
If the error appears after a route has been made using approximately 50 route pins (the exact number is known only to Apple), wait a minute or more and then use the “Update Last Routes” function.
Inclement weather.
If the error appears during inclement weather, Road Trip Planner uses Apple Maps, and Apple Maps does not have the ability to ignore road conditions when routing, even if the route time period is during the summer.
What can you do? Not much unfortunately. Try again in a few days. Complain to Apple.
You can confirm an inclement weather error message using Apple Maps. If RTP gives the error between route pin A and route pin B, try this:
- Obtain the coordinates (latitude and longitude) for the points A & B.
- Enter the coordinates of point A into Apple Maps.
- Get directions from point A to point B using point B’s coordinates.
- Apple Maps returns the same error message as RTP

Q. I found an error on the Apple map. How can I report it?
A. Road Trip Planner uses Apple maps. If you find an error on the Apple map, please report the error to Apple. To report an Apple map error, start Apple's Maps app, go to the location on the map that has the error, and select "Report a Problem…" under the Maps menu.
