Hi Everyone,

My name is Kim and I am the race director for the first annual Pursuit
of the Holy Grail in Epping NH. This is my first time starting a race
as well as our entire race committee. We were wondering if anyone
does cross promotion for their races with other race directors? I
have seem pamphlets left on cars at races to promote other races and I
wasn't sure if this was an accepted practice in the race community or
frowned upon. I would love to hear your thoughts or any other
pointers from the veterans out there.

TIA,
Kim

I speak for many (and most that I've met in this region) that we are a collegial bunch.........as long as we respect each others' race dates and don't filch others' courses (both topics for separate discussion!)

Anything we can do to promote our sport is good so I generally have no problem with pamphlet-dropping. You'll also find that your race timer may haul pamphlets to other races they time. CoolRunning is the leading online resource for listing your race and you may want to "hire" a running club to work a water stop (they can use the $$ and they also will spread the word about the race). Finally, local running specailty stores should allow you to drop off some race fliers (they usually have a race shelf).

Good luck!

Kim - I can only speak to the race I direct (Market Square Day 10K).

Our agreement with the race timer (Granite State Race Services) includes their ability to have a table with race information. Additionally, as we are a part of the Seacoast Road Race Series, the SRRS has a table at our bib/shirt pick-up location.

We do not encourage flyers on cars - it is my experience that this type of (guerilla) marketing ends up in the trash - or worse - on the ground...and, as it is part of our mission to produce green, more sustainable events in Portsmouth, we find that lots of paper on the ground doesn't jive with our desire to be more responsible.

Local merchants like Runner's Alley are excellent for promoting races - rack cards and/or registration forms are typically featured there and runners are aware of that practice.

Hope that helps, best of luck and I appreciate you asking the question...
Barbara
