Some race web sites tell you how many people have registered for the
race (either as a number, or percentage of the total field if there is
a ceiling), or how close the race is to being full. Does this help
registration, hinder it, or have no impact? One could surmise that
when the numbers are relatively low, people might feel more secure in
waiting until closer to race day to register. Conversely, when the
numbers are high, would people be more anxious about getting closed
out, and register sooner? Or do people just not pay too much attention
to that kind of information?

We're experimenting with posting our registration info on our web site
this year, so I wonder if any of the rest of you have experience with
this issue that you'd be willing to share?

Thanks,

Jay

My view:

If you're a big race in danger of closing out, it's a service to the runners
you may want to consider (LOCO does this via web site update, e-newsletter
and Facebook group).

If you are a small race it could be an embarrassment or a deterrent
