After months of writing and rewriting, I am happy to finally announce RNCryptor 4 beta 1 in Swift.

RNCryptor 4 is a complete rewrite of RNCryptor for Swift 2 with full bridging support to Objective-C. It has a streamlined API, simpler installation, and improved internals. It continues to use the v3 data format and is fully interoperable with other RNCryptor implementations.

For users desiring a fully Objective-C solution, v3 is still available. I don’t currently plan to do significant new work on v3, but will consider it if there is strong interest. Going forward, I expect most OS X and iOS projects to be able to accept a mix of ObjC and Swift code. Objective-C continues to be a fully supported language in RNCryptor 4.

I plan to convert this to a final release in a week or so if no major issues are discovered.

RNCryptor 3.0.1 is still available, in ObjC, and is fully supported. https://github.com/RNCryptor/RNCryptor/releases/tag/RNCryptor-3.0.1

I keep meaning to pull it out into its own thing to make it clearer, but nothing has changed there. You can use either the ObjC 3.0 version or the Swift 4.0 version. They're fully interoperable and supported.

Hi Rob,

I am considering using RNCryptor (v. 4) for exchanging messages between iOS App and a C# server.
I see the C# version has not been updated for 3 years.
Any compatibility / other issues I might have with my plan?
What would you recommend?

Thanks

The C# version should be completely compatible with any current RNCryptor encryptions. If you have any problems with it, please let me know, but it should generally work out of the box. There hasn't been extensive testing on Windows platforms; I believe it was originally developed on Mono. PRs are welcome of course, but if you run into any trouble, I can take a look at it as well.
