Installing STAR on a macintosh

I am trying to install STAR on an iMAc with 3,4 GHz Intel Core i7 and 32 Go 1600 MHz DDR3 memory.

I downloaded the Mac executable (STAR_2.3.0e.OSX_x86_64) from the STAR website and tried to launch it from within a terminal.

I obtained the following error line:

./STAR

EXITING because of fatal input ERROR: could not open readInFile=Read1

Oct 23 16:02:09 ...... FATAL ERROR, exiting

Hi Olivier,

STAR actually was able to start successfully on your Mac. It does not print any message if run without any parameters (this feature request is on my list).

You need to supply STAR at least with input reads files --readFilesIn Read1.fq Read2.fq and genome directory --genomeDir /path/to/genome/dir/

If you want to use the latest patch, you can download it here and compile with

$ make STARforMac
