Are there any meetups planned for Friday morning to head over to Meeker.

If not, I will either take the route thru Estes Park (us34 to us40) if I can get a morning RMNP reservation, or I will take the northern route thru Walden.

I was going to ask the same thing ... starting from the Springs, am I just solo riding all the way?  Is there a place/time I can meet someone?

Steve, Chris and any others interested.

I am planning to meet Vince at Launch Espresso at 9:30 on Friday.
I am planning to follow routes 40 and 6 where possible and I-70 when necessary.
Probably a couple of stops for gas and hydration/coffee,
I am riding a Scrambler, so probably not a super fast pace.
Turn right at Rifle to get to Meeker.

Chris,

I would be up to meet with you somewhere north of Denver and ride over through Walden and on to Meeker. I wouldn't be able to leave Littleton until 8am at the earliest. That would put me up around I25 and hwy 392 about 915ish. I would defer to you for a meeting spot.

My concern with Estes Park and through RMNP would be long lines to get in, and slow tourist traffic with a 35mph speed limit.

Does anyone know if the fires north of Rabbit Ears are causing traffic issues? The last report I saw was that they fires were still fairly small.

Cheers,

Al Miller

Still noodling route options for Friday, but will plan to depart from Launch Espresso too, around 9:30.  Should post route by this evening.

I would be up for joining any of the groups, but I do worry about RMNP unless you get there early.

I would prefer to avoid i70 if possible though so the northern route sounds like more what I am thinking.

I'm planning on coming north from Fairplay to Silverthorne and would welcome anyone who wants to meet and ride from there.

I'm planning to go up to Kremmling and work my way over from there.  I'm still researching, trying to determine the condition of County Rd 8 between Yampa and Meeker.  It's paved on both ends and I'm seeing it's well-maintained gravel in the middle for about 40 miles.  It's supposedly beautiful and I've never ridden it.   If that doesn't pan out I'll just go the northern route through Steamboat and Craig and back down.

Hit me up if you want to meet up and ride the second half together.

Cheers,

Jim

The Flat Tops Scenic Byway https://meekerchamber.com/flat-tops-scenic-byway/ between Yampa and Meeker looks promising. From what I have read, about half of its 82 miles are paved.

Heh, I didn't know it had a name; I just look for squiggly lines on the map ;)

I just checked it out in detail and it's very easy dirt.  So my route is Silverthorne - Kremmling - Yampa - Meeker via Flat Tops.  If you'd like to join me, give a shout.

Cheers,

Jim

I'll be coming up US40 through Winter Park to Kremmling, where I'll catch CO134. Next stop: Toponas (CO131) and then to Yampa.

At this point, I don't know when I'll be in Kremmling.

Tavis - at this point, I am leaning to meeting Bob and Denise in Cheyenne at 9am. It's a short ride for me and I haven't yet done the Cheyenne to Walden route. I was wanting to do RMNP, but I don't yet have a pass and there is the potential for long lines. I'm guessing lane filtering in this instance would be frowned upon. 🙂

Personally, i would never ride RMNP in  th e summer due to traffic . Cheyenne to Walden is great if go over the Snowy Range which is what Bob is likely to do. WALXDEN THEN TO US 40 is good too

Last year, Adam and I got to RMNP before the timed entry window. Of course, that meant we left Steamboat Springs around 05:00. Traffic in the park wasn't bad at that hour.
