Family,

I would like to try the task of organizing a family reunion next year. I had a quick virtual meeting with Rebekah and Dad to get their ideas. Below are ideas we had, and I wanted to get feedback from everyone else along with other ideas you may have.

Some things to take into consideration:
  • Mom has limited mobility and needs a place that is handicap accessible
  • Jacob and Athena's family health sensitivities (a place to camp/sleep outside most likely?)
  • Rebekah will be flying if we do it in Utah/Idaho (which makes sense due to majority of families living there) so she would prefer being close to a major airport
  • Maybe how much money you might be willing to spend?
  • How far away are you able to travel?
Are there any other things like that to take into consideration?

It seems like our kids and Rebekah's would start school 2nd week of August or something like that and end the week before Memorial Day weekend. Those of you with kids in public schools, what is the schedule usually like for you?

Possible date is Memorial Day Weekend 2025 spending 2-3 days together. 2 1/2 to 3 days might be ideal to ensure the cousins have enough bonding time. Could also do later in the summer if in a cooler climate. Do you have any thoughts on when we could do it?

Possible locations we thought of are Twin Falls, St, George, Salt Lake City, Provo, Park City, Boise, Pocatello, and Bear Lake. Redfish Lake Lodge was thought of but the possible issue with that is handicap accessibility with Mom. Any other ideas?

Possible lodging ideas were KOA or somewhere else that might have camping and cabin/hotel options or an AirBNB with a big enough backyard for tents (Julie told me though that they might charge extra if you have tents in the yard...that is something we could look at if that is something we want to do). Dad also recently learned about possible AirBNB options with his timeshare that he could look into. Any other ideas?

Our girls get out of school on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and it's always a good selling day for us at the Farmer's Market due to the city bash that day, so we'd need to do another weekend.  The girls start sometime in the 20's in August. Brian's extended family often do something in July, I will ask if they have any dates known yet. Otherwise, we're flexible for dates. We'll have a 9 month old, but could make camping work even with that. Utah sounds fun--I'd prefer that over Twin Falls or Boise, but again, we're flexible.

Rachel the thought with twin falls was the fact that City of the rocks and Shoshone falls are nearby. I would really like to drive less than 3 hours from the airport if possible. Redfish gets harder in that regard though not completely out of the way if I flew to Boise, but those flights are more expensive. Cheapest flights are to Las Vegas, so St George has a strong pull for me. But I’ve also never been to bear lake so that could be super fun…

Rachel would you prefer not a Friday sometime in the summer?
Bear lake was fun. Had nice wadding area for my non swimming kids and it was warm. Would just need to bring shade.

We don't mind taking one or 2 Fridays off throughout the summer to spend time with family, so if a weekend is better for most, we'll make it work. I might have a hard time convincing Brian to go to St. George...especially with a baby, so a closer location would be better for us. City of the Rocks might be fun, same with Bear lake. We have a canopy ;), but beach days would be hard for mom, so we'd need to make sure there were other things to do there, too.
