Hi John,

I read your friend's comments to Dad.  He seems to think that she may be under the impression that he is suffering from atrial fibrillation, when the current diagnosis is atrial flutter.  I could not really tell if he was pleased with the information she provided, but as a result we just looked at some web pages on atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter.

The basic idea here is that atrial flutter increases the danger of stroke.  This danger can be reduced by the administration of warfarin (coumidin)  BUT these blood thinners can also result in additional hemorrhaging of his eye.  He is afraid that such medications could impair his eyesight further.  For this reason he is throttling back on exercise and has not gone on warfarin.  He has not been swimming since I arrived on Sunday.

An eye exam has shown that some additional hemorrhaging was detected.  They took pictures, and will take more in early August to see if the hemorrhaging is increasing or stable.  Dad does think his eye sight is worse since surgery.  He thinks he can see everything he could see before but it is fuzzier.

Dr. Triffon just put him on a different blood pressure (Spironolactone, 25MG once daily).  He will start it tomorrow.

For the entire week I have been down here, he has seemed a bit lethargic, but this may be purposeful give the conditions mentioned above.

As for the Giants, I'll keep my ear's open.  It would be fun to go to a game.
