A blast from the past (but holds ever so true even for today):

Summary of RLC Hash Runs and Rules:

Runs - Weekly on Tuesday come rain, shine or snow
Time - 6.00pm (5.00pm if it’s a Public Holiday)

For the Receding Hareline, 2 members will be rotated to be the Hares.

The Run sites shall be decided by the Hares
They will select either an In-run (vicinity of the Club) or an Out-run (Anyway in W.P/Selangor)

Policy for 2011, the first Tuesday of the month shall be a In Run – by order of Miss Management.

If they are unfamiliar with setting trails, obtain assistance of the Mismanagement to find an experience Harrier to be Consultant Hare.

A member of the Mismanagement will be on standby as Consultant Hare to help Virgin Hares. (see Receding Hareline)

The Hares and the Consultant Hare will:-

RUN:
1. Recee or survey their desired run site at least a month early.

(Run duration to be between 60 mins to 90 mins)

2. To forward directions of run site to the On Sec and Baskar 3 weeks before scheduled run.

3. Lay the actual trail on the run day, 3 hours before the run starts.

4. To collect refreshments together with Icebox, garbage bags, table from club (sports)

CIRCLE:
After the run, refreshments i.e. beers, isomax, water bought from the Section Members’ Subscription Fund will be served and the Circle will be conducted by the Grandmaster.

Beer will be served only when the 1st runner on paper returns or at the absolute discretion of the GM.

Hare must ensure the Icebox is returned to the club the following day.

FELLOWSHIP:
The Hares will decide where the On On (dinner) will be.
It can either be in the Club for In-runs and any restaurant near the Out-runs or catered food at the run site.
The section has fixed a minimum sum of RM350 per hare as contribution towards the food. This sum is based on the 36 runs per year (12 are members' runs and 4 are special events), which works out to RM9.73 per meal. Cheap, cheap!!! Further contributions are always welcomed.

SETTING OF RUN BY HARES

These rules relate to the management of the runs and are to be adhered to by the Hare and the Co-Hares. The primary responsibility of the Hare is to set the run and ensure all runners are back safely.

1. Run lengths are to be within 1 hour to 1.5 hours. Do not set runs longer than the 1.5

Hours. A 1.5hr run is long please inform slower hashers so that they may double back or short cut.

2. Ensure that there is enough paper on the trail.

3. Try to avoid kampongs and residential areas. Not everyone appreciates hashing.

4. If the trail cannot avoid kampongs or residential areas, then flour or shredded paper must be used. This will reduce the loss of trail paper.

5. Ensure that checks are connected maximum 100m from the checkpoint. Otherwise we might have rabbit stew for dinner.

6. All runners are to stay on paper. Return to the last paper at the check should you wander away from the trail.

7. All runners should carry torch lights and their mobile phones for their own safety.

8. If runners are lost and call for assistance to be picked up,

the Hare or the Co-Hares must arrange for the transport to pick up the lost party.

9. Runners who have not returned will be known from the check-in list. If runners are not

back by the time the circle is over, one of the hares must remain at the run site.

The other may have to go to the restaurant to arrange the dinner for the rest. Under such circumstances runners are to assist hares where possible. The Co-Hare at the restaurant must ensure food is sufficient for those remaining at the run site.

10. If by 9.00pm, runners have not returned, a search party consisting of the Hare and helpers are to be dispatched into the trail.

11. The Circle shall be postponed should majority of runners not be back by 8.30pm

12. Someone is to be stationed at the run site during runs all the time and mobile phone numbers to be issued to runners should an emergency arise.

13. Hares must be equipped with torches and mobile phones in case there is a need for a search.

14. The search party must take enough drinks for the lost runners.

15. All runners are to register on the check-in (attendance list), this is to keep track of runners and for insurance coverage.

Scribe reports by Uncle Yap:

RLC Harriers Run #874
Run Site : Vicinity of Mont Kiara
Hares : KitKat & Derek Wong but mostly plotted by Wendy Lum
Weather : Fine weather, thank goodness

As we waited and watched the Filipino maids walking the designer dogs,
little did we know the drama that would unfold later that evening.
Exactly at 6.00 pm GrandMaster Woon pressed his roti-horn and off we
went straight up the hill and into the cool verdant covers of Bukit
Kiara.

Up and up we climbed and then there was a check which stopped
everybody for quite some time. At the bare hill-top, we looked down on
some pretty sights. Soon "On! On!" was heard and we came down sharply
on some steep ground. Mercifully, the ground was largely dry,
otherwise many backsides would be muddied.

At the bottom, there was some confusion. Shit-stirrer (aka Arthur Hoi)
was heard shouting "Short cut" and like fools, we all followed him up
a trail that seemed to go on for at least one km, only to find the
trail ending abruptly without a single shred of paper. In the
meantime, Wendy (she was everywhere) assisted the slower runners to
the correct trail and off we climbed up another steep hill.  We could
see the amount of work Wendy and her crew had put into clearing the
path through a jungle little run by other chapters.

At the top, Wendy was there (told you she was everywhere) to point to
the Walkers' Trail and the Runners' trail. The difference was an extra
long loop which covered some treacherous steep inclines. The walkers,
meanwhile walked along a path carved out by water flowing down all
these years. It was quite a long way down before we emerged at the top
of the highest condominium block. After that, it was plain walking
down to the site for a welcome drink.

It was quite a remarkable trail, well thought out and marked (yes,
with plenty of identification paper saying 874) and should rate as one
of the best runs of the year (Sorry, Ann Choo, have to borrow your
favourite phrase)

As we bathed and drank and had our usual circle of fun and
frivolities, little Jeremy Poh could be seen asking everyone "Have you
seen my Dad?" Extra Virgin Jim Poh was still missing and after the
recent escapade of Oily Teo in Bukit Hatamas, we were all so filled
with misgiving and apprehension.

We went to D'Fong for dinner but the mood was not quite the same ...
on everyone's mind was the nagging anxiety of a lost comrade. We did
not notice that Derek, a true connoisseur of the finest Scotch and who
has one of the best collections of whiskies in Malaysia had fobbed us
off with ordinary single malts like GlenLivet, Glen Fiddich and Old
Pulteney ... as soon as we had satisfied our physical hunger, we all
made our way up to the run site to await news of the search for Jim
Poh.

A search party had gone in and sometime after 10, there was a cry of
joy and jubilation "He's found!". We all burst out spontaneously with
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a poor wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see

Thus ended an evening of high drama. Anxiety and anguish were replaced
by relief and delight. Nope, Jim, you will have to wait another time
for your headline in The Star.

Tarzan/Alka 17th Anniversay Run
Run Site : Vicinity of Bukit Gasing
Hares : Tarzan & Alka plus some unknown hired hares
Weather : Fine weather

As we drove towards the Gasing Playground, we could see Tarzan had
invited many many guests. The roads around the playground were totally
parked with cars. The new car park (courtesy of MBPJ) was totally
full. Fear not, there is always room for another car.

At 5.30, Tarzan shouted "Oo yi oh!!" and off we ran towards the
entrance to the park and up we went relentlessly upwards to a peak and
then down again to the bottom. Then another upward climb (stupid lah,
is there something called the downward climb?) towards the notorious
Telekoms hill and people were seen struggling to get to the top, which
happened to be the abandoned Hindu Temple.

At this point, the heroes like Lilian & David, CCGoh and his two sons
turned left and went on to go down, climbed another hill, down again
and went up yet another hill before coming down to the playground. The
smarter hashers like UY, Vivien and Thomas took the opportunity to
take a right turn, go down to the Telekoms tower and then emerging to
the road. Civilisation at last!

We walked to the Grand Mansion and I jumped straight into the inviting
pool, not forgetting to pick up a can of cold Tiger beer. The rest
came straggling towards the Playground and then upwards to Tarzan's
house (that climb alone is so tough, without trees for me to hug!" )
a palatial mansion which is the envy of many (but not my good wife,
Alice who thought of the area she has to vacuum, mop and clean and who
sensibly said 'no, thank you')

Upstairs, the screen was playing classics like Satisfaction (Rolling
Stones) and definitely NOT He ain't heavy, he's my brother (Hollies)
hoping that there will not be another incident of Serena Tan fainting
on the trail and having to be carried home by Dato Steven Oon.

We tucked into a lot of goodies like ABC and Chendol and wadil and
nasi lemak and pizza washed down with copious amount of Tiger and
Carlsberg beer (thirstier people like UY found Glen Morangie).

Smart people came back, went upstairs and jumped into the inviting
swimming pool. UY was the first and he was followed by many others.
The beautiful thing was that you could swim and have a cold beer at
the end of the lap ... that's life or as the French would say " C'est
la'vie"

And so we celebrated the 17th Anniversay of the glorious marriage of
Shyam and Alka and wish them another 17 years of wedded bliss.
