Fully funded PhD posItion in safe learning sponsored by FAA

There is an immediate opening for a fully-funded PhD position, sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at West Virginia University. The ideal candidate will conduct research on the problem of safe (reinforcement) learning for avionic systems. The ultimate goal of this project is to design and implementation of offline validation and runtime monitoring algorithms for safety-critical avionic systems.

Prior research experiences on reinforcement learning, data-driven optimization techniques, and/or formal methods are highly desired. The priority will be given to those candidates that reside in US or be able to join in the Spring 2022 semester. Candidates should submit a detailed cv, one sample publication (if available), and TOEFL/IELTS scores to ali.b...@mail.wvu.edu.
