Hi,

I'm recruiting a postdoctoral researcher with a background in causal inference. Our team is working to estimate effects of dynamic treatment strategies for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. In particular, we are conducting a wide range of target trial emulations to assess alternative strategies for initiating steroids and neuromuscular blockade, as well as manipulating ventilator settings. We also want to learn robust and interpretable phenotypes that are useful for dynamic decision-making.

Our team has three co-PIs: myself (a statistician with expertise in causal inference), Li-wei Lehman (a machine learning researcher at MIT/Physionet with expertise in phenotype learning from ICU data), and Elias Baedorf-Kassis (an ICU physician researcher at BIDMC/Harvard Medical School). We have funding in hand through September 2027, with the possibility for an additional two years funding pending approval of an extension. Salary would be ~$75K per year. Remote would be ok, but I'm based in NYC and the other PIs are based in Boston.

Please get in touch if interested or with any questions! (Zachar...@sph.cuny.edu or zach...@gmail.com)

Dear Dr. Shahn,

I recently saw your announcement regarding the postdoctoral position on causal inference and dynamic treatment strategies for ARDS.

I am currently completing my PhD in Computer Science at Southwest Jiaotong University, where my research focuses on graph neural networks and automated machine learning for precision medicine. My work includes the MGATAF framework for cancer drug response prediction and several publications in journals such as BMC Bioinformatics and Artificial Intelligence in Medicine.

More broadly, my research explores how graph representation learning can be combined with causal inference and reinforcement learning to support clinical decision-making.

I believe my background in graph neural networks and healthcare AI aligns well with your research on treatment strategies in critical care.

I would be honored to discuss potential opportunities to contribute to your research group.

Best regards
Dhekra Saeed
