Dear Researchers,

Reinforcement Learning (RL) is currently one of the most active and rapidly growing research areas. Compared to more established fields, RL is relatively new, and its applications are still evolving. Researchers are increasingly exploring its use in interdisciplinary domains such as healthcare, physics, and many others.

One major challenge in RL research is that it is often difficult to directly deploy agents in real-world physical environments for experimentation. As a result, researchers rely heavily on virtual (simulation) environments. At present, many such environments are provided by OpenAI Gym (now maintained as Gymnasium: https://gymnasium.farama.org/). If anyone is aware of other relevant resources, please feel free to share them.

A common issue faced by researchers is the lack of suitable or customizable simulation environments. When required environments are not available, many researchers struggle because they lack the expertise to build or adapt these environments themselves. This often delays manuscript preparation and publication. In some cases, promising research ideas are even abandoned due to the unavailability of appropriate simulation platforms.

To address this challenge, I propose the development of a collaborative platform that brings together researchers, academics, and developers. This platform would serve as a centralized hub for sharing:

Simulation environments

Development tools and frameworks

Code repositories

Tutorials and best practices

This platform could take the form of a Google Group, LinkedIn group, Discord server, or another suitable medium.

I would greatly appreciate your suggestions on what type of platform would best meet these goals. Additionally, if a similar platform already exists, I kindly request you to share it so that the community can benefit.

The main objective is to simplify the process of developing simulation environments, enabling researchers to focus more on their core methodologies rather than spending excessive time on environment creation.

A Life is lived for others is a life worthwhile.

Thank you for your time and valuable input.
