We are seeking organizers for the 5th Workshop for Women in Machine Learning.
Organizing the workshop is a great opportunity to both meet senior women in the
field as well as help bring new graduate students into the larger community.
We invite interested women to submit a short (300 words or less) statement
including:
* Your affiliation and year
* Relevant previous experience (including event planning, fundraising,
publicity, mentoring, program chairing, etc.)
* Why you are interested in organizing the workshop
A prospective organizer should be a female PhD student or postdoc actively
involved in machine learning research.
Three to four organizers will be selected. Joint responsibilities will
include:
-selecting invited speakers
-overseeing submission of abstracts
-working with the program committee to select presenters
-maintaining the workshop website
-making arrangements with the workshop venue
-publicizing the event
-seeking funding from relevant sponsors
-attending to financial aspects, such as reimbursing sponsored participants
Over the past years, the workshop has built up a set of contacts and
successful procedures that the organizers may build upon; a long-term WiML
board will also be available to provide guidance. Organizers should expect to
spend on average 1-2 hours/week on workshop organization.
Please send your expression of interest and any inquiries to
wimlwo...@gmail.com. They must be received by January 31, 2010.
Your friendly 2009 organizers,
Finale, Inmar, and Farheen
