Hello,

The Robotics and Embodied AI Lab (REAL) at Mila has an open postodc position in robotics and machine learning. REAL is directed by Canada CIFAR AI chair holders and professors Liam Paull and Glen Berseth and has four research assistants, over 30 members and is affiliated with four professors around Montreal. The main direction of the lab is to create generalist robot systems that can complete a diversity of tasks across robots in unstructured environments.

The lab is looking for more postdocs to add to the lab's strength. We invite all candidates with experience foundational models for planning and reinforcement learning in the following areas.
  • Sequential decision making and reinforcement learning: multi-agent RL, generalization in RL, hierarchical RL, sample efficient RL, RL for discovery, language-based RL agents, goal-conditioned RL, offline RL, etc
  • Robotics: Foundational models for robotics, vision-language-action models, legged robotics, humanoid robotics, planning from vision, autonomous learning, control theory, Sim2Real.
We generally expect successful post-doc applicants to have an established publication record in machine learning, robotics, or computer vision and have obtained or be in the process of obtaining a P.h.D. in computer science or engineering. A strong background in deep learning, reinforcement learning, or robot learning is strongly preferred.

We are looking forward to hearing from you. Submit your applications here.

Hello CLaas,

Good to hear from you again. This would need to be fast. If I look over your file and it is good, then we would need to organize a research talk next week. Would you have time for that?

Take care.

Hi Glen,

I don't know if you remember me from RLC, I'm a final year PhD student
with Amir-massoud Farahmand and Igor Gilitschenski. I am extremely
interested in a Canadian post-doc position, and am wondering how quickly
you are planning to make your decisions. The reason I am asking directly
and not just filling out the form is that I have a standing offer from
Columbia on which I need to decide in the next two weeks. However, this
offer does not have a robotics component and I am for perhaps obvious
reasons, a bit apprehensive about taking a US offer at the moment.
Therefore I am in the market for alternatives that are either more
robotics focused, or in Canada, or best case both :).

If you are interested in chatting, I am available at any time. I will
also be at ICLR next week. In addition, I am filling out the form to
give you the "official" infos.

Thanks a lot,

Claas Voelcker

Hey group admins, this mailing list's default behavior of replying-all instead of replying only to the mail sender has led to quite a few recent mishaps ; apparently there are options to change that in the group's options, should we perhaps make that change ?
