# Background

Founded in 2012, ByteDance is a technology company operating a range of content platforms that inform, educate, entertain and inspire people across languages, cultures and geographies. With a suite of more than a dozen products, including TikTok, Douyin, Toutiao, Lark, Helo and Resso, ByteDance now has a portfolio of applications available in over 150 markets and 75 languages.

Our new machine learning research team based in the TikTok London office is dedicated to building a technology center to provide technical support for all ByteDance products from the perspectives of Responsible AI. We are looking for machine learning researchers who have solid technical skills while being passionate about pursuing excellence in machine learning fairness and related areas.

# Responsibilities

- Conduct research and development of innovative technologies on machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, natural language processing, etc.
- Conduct research and development of innovative technologies on machine learning fairness and more generally Responsible AI / Trustworthy AI (including but not limited to explainability, robustness, privacy, transparency, and accountability).
- Design and analyse ethical machine learning algorithms, and apply them to our software products for recommendation, search, computer vision, natural language processing, and other fields.
- Carry out the complete workflow of data processing, model building, performance optimisation, and system deployment independently.
- Collaborate with experts in the related fields from academia / industry, and supervise PhD student interns.
- Publish research results in prestigious conferences and journals, or file patents.

# Qualifications

- Researchers or PhD graduates in machine learning and other related disciplines.
- In-depth understanding of machine learning and deep learning. 
- Solid mathematical background, and strong coding ability in at least one algorithmic programming language (e.g., Python or C++).
- Good knowledge of commonly used machine learning and deep learning algorithms / models; proficiency in using at least one deep learning framework (e.g. PyTorch or TensorFlow);
- Excellent communication skills, analytical skills, and learning ability; being a team player.
- Publications at top theoretical or applied machine learning journals and conferences (such as ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ACL, EMNLP, SIGIR, KDD, WWW, and FAccT) would be a big plus.
