PHD POSITION AT KU LEUVEN: UNCERTAINTY-AWARE MACHINE LEARNING FOR RISK MITIGATION IN SAFETY-CRITICAL SYSTEMS

The DTAI research group (http://dtai.cs.kuleuven.be) embedded within the M-Group (https://iiw.kuleuven.be/onderzoek/m-group) at KU Leuven Bruges Campus has an open PhD position on AI Safety.

This PhD research will focus on uncertainty-aware machine learning models, developing and evaluating techniques (e.g., Bayesian and interval neural networks) to quantify model uncertainty and monitor it during operation. This means creating and testing methods to assess how confident a model is in its predictions and using this information to detect and mitigate risks in real time. The work will concentrate on deep learning for vision and time-series tasks. The findings will be validated and demonstrated on realistic industry-grade demonstrator setups for both time series and vision.

The full job description, including an elaborate description of the topic, the profile and the offer can be found via https://www.kuleuven.be/personeel/jobsite/jobs/60599754

Only complete applications made through KU Leuven’s online application tool will be considered.
