I'm considering purchasing a new Powernode however, I use internet radio quite a bit and am concerned that many of the radio stations on Tunein are no longer avl in UK. I'm just interested in opinions and views of on whether there is a solution to this or if people have found it to be a major issue.

Please see the TuneIn Wikipedia entry which gives a brief summary of the High Court case which Sony and Warner brought against them resulting in the removal of most international radio stations from TuneIn for UK users. It's anybody's guess whether similar restrictions will be applied in the future against other (smaller) aggregator services/platforms such as Airable.

As a listener in the UK I can confirm that there is good coverage of most national and local stations. However, foreign stations tend to be limited to news only. This restriction can be circumvented to some extent by entering 'custom' station URLs in favourites but access isn't guaranteed.

I currently use a Cambridge Audio Minx Xi network streamer (which I'd like to replace) and the internet radio platform they use is called Airable which I have no issues with receiving US/foreign based stations.

I use the Tunein website and have many stations that are unknown / under the radar and just add the streams. Also have added higher bitrate streams as I find them. Once logged into Tunein on BluOS the Stations appear in my Favourites and can be accessed outside of Bluesound. Custom URLs can also be entered directly into the Tunein section of the Bluesound App.

Like most sensible companies Bluesound tend to not publish a roadmap as this only gives their competitors a heads-up but also if for some reason the enhancement cannot be added then would upset customers who bought on a promise.

From conversations with them thy advise me that the radio platform they use is "Airable", so perhaps this is the reason but it seems odd to me that the direct competition are able to achieve this but Bluesound can't or aren't really bothered?

Like you I am just a user, I spent 5 mins and found the details on one of the stations you were looking for, the first Website was not working. Proof of concept of how easy / simple it is and a one off to add streams despite not being able to read Russian.

Ever since getting an iPhone SE on iOS 14 (previously iPhone 6 on iOS 12) whenever I get in my car, the phone automatically connects to bluetooth, as it should, but then starts playing Heart Radio via "TuneIn". Now, I don't have a TuneIn app installed and never have, and when I tap the "now playing" in control centre it opens the iOS Music app. I've never asked it to do this, never had TuneIn installed, never selected or listened to Heart Radio and I don't live in or near Luton, Beds (which is a place in the UK for those that don't know) so I really have no idea why it's doing it but I'd really love to know how to stop it. Prior to this, it would often start playing either that last app I was using for music (usually the Planet Rock radio app, or the Music app with either the last song playing or it'll start on a random song), which is fine - I'm happy for that to continue. But I don't want whatever this this is.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I should have been more clear - I do not have (nor ever have had) the TuneIn app installed on my phone. When it autostarts "Hearts - Beds" radio, if I tap it it takes me to the standard inbuilt iOS Music app, despite saying "From TuneIn". There appears to be no options in the Music app relating to TuneIn hence why I can't see a way to stop this happening.

I do not have CarPlay, I have a very basic Bluetooth system in an old car that never had a problem with any version of iOS up to 12. The problem here is purely and specifically the Music app deciding to play Heart radio when I get in my car.

You mentioned that you don't recall installing the TuneIn app, but since it is appearing despite that, that's a good place to start. If you tap Settings and scroll to the bottom, you'll see a list of all the configurable apps on your device. Do you see TuneIn listed here?

If you do, you have some options. First, you can select the app from the Settings screen and see what options are available here. Additionally, if the app is installed, we can open the app directly and customize its behavior as well. If you have app-specific questions, here's How to contact an app developer for assistance.

When it comes to how Bluetooth is handled, there can be a wide difference of behaviors and supported features between different manufacturers, but also different model and years of the car you are using your iPhone with. Depending on the age of your car, and the features the manufacturer makes available, this could be expected behavior.

Give those steps a try, and if you are still running into difficulty, reach out to your car's manufacturer for assistance. If they confirm that the features should work the way you expect, be sure to ask them about the device and configuration that they are using. That way if their firmware only supports up to a certain iPhone model or iOS version, you can narrow down what might be actually happening and be more likely to solve the issue.

I would like to have support for TuneIn Radio to start playing a music station on a media player.
I know you can get the stream url and use media_player.play_media with media_content_id but when I cast this to my google home hub it:

Check this lovelace card. Easiest to implement radio stations. I have around 7 Google devices that I can cast to them and around 15 different radio stations setup for them. I show logo of station and its title on the Google device with screen. Showing currently playing song is a no go. But I modified the code and implement my own song artist/title display inside the card:

TuneIn has stopped playing radio stations on my home mini again. It plays the adverts then nothing. When I ask my speaker what is playing it says either "nothing is playing" or "TuneIn is playing" but nothing is heard from the speaker. Is this a TuneIn problem or a Google problem?

This is not the experience we want you to have, let me help you. A few questions: which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? What is the command given and the error message received when asking to play from TuneIn? What stations are you trying to play?

TuneIn Radio is only playing the adverts and not the radio station I have picked to play as part of my routine set on my speaker. When I ask Google what is playing I get one of two different answers - "Nothing is playing right now" or it tells me the name of the radio station I have set ( but there is nothing playing). How can I get TuneIn to work properly ( resetting the speaker didn't work and I am unable to get at my router to reset it)?

HI @CrissyWissy if you go to Samsung Apps there are suggested ones, Group Content and Genre. Tune In radio should be available within the Lifestyle section of Genre. Some information here -do-i-install-or-uninstall-tunein-on-my-samsung-tv-

So after a bit of digging i figured out how this is down. You need to have composer or have your dealer go to the tunein driver and click on sync favorites for programming. Obviously after you have your account setup. After the sync you can select the stations by clicking on the room and then select media then broadcast audio.

In the programming view on the left side pick which button you want programmed. Then on the right side click on the actual room that you want the audio played in. Once the room is selected click on the "select media" below the click on the "..." Then broadcast audio.

I have a 250 comming at the end of the week and need to know if I can do this. Right now I use the shout cast driver. Button 1 starts the playlist and button six will go to the next station. How will this work with tumein will it be possible to change stations by creating a playlist and selecting next.

If you have no use for the built-in 'Default' stations and want to remove clutter, they can be hidden by navigating to Settings > LUMIN Options > Internet Radio Setting and turning 'Default Radio Stations' to 'Off'.

Occasionally TuneIn Radio stations become unavailable through the normal 'Favourites' method above. In these cases, custom URLs for radio streams can be added manually. URLs can be found online (e.g. This list of BBC stream URLs)

TuneIn is operated by the company TuneIn Inc. based in San Francisco, California. The company was founded by Bill Moore in 2002 as RadioTime in Dallas, Texas. Users can listen through the TuneIn website using a mobile app, smart speaker, or any other supported device. As of 2016[update], TuneIn became available on more than 55 vehicle models.[20] In 2013, the company raised more than USD 47 million in venture funding from Institutional Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital, GV, General Catalyst Partners, and Icon Ventures.[21]

In August 2015, TuneIn launched a premium service called "TuneIn Premium" that covers audiobooks, sports content from MLB, NHL, NFL, NBA, news content from MSNBC, Al Jazeera, and more.[23] Initially, subscribers were able to record any content played through the TuneIn service,[24] but the feature was first discontinued in the UK in early 2017, with a global discontinuation following on September 14, 2020, citing legal issues.[25] However, the feature remains accessible through older versions of the TuneIn Pro app.
