Shimano cranks fit into BB86 frames when you have this CeramicSpeed Bottom Bracket installed. The kit consists of two cups that are pressed into either side of the central opening.

The cups come with CeramicSpeed Bearings installed. There are two versions. The first is our low drag, long life Standard Bearing, with hardened-steel races and our super round CeramicSpeed Balls. The second version is our coated bearing, which uses those same CeramicSpeed Balls installed on coated, hardened-steel races for longer life and less bearing drag.

Finding the right bottom bracket for the ever-growing range of bicycles on the market is not always an easy task. At Enduro we currently offer over 50 different models of bottom brackets for various bottom bracket shell and crankset combinations in multiple price/performance levels. Enduro bearings offers threaded options for BSA, BSA 30, Italian and the robust T47 system. For press-fit bottom brackets we have thread-together Torqtite bottom brackets. We even offer flanged, double-row bearings to fit 30mm cranksets in BB86 shells!

The IceToolz bottom bracket press is an indispensable tool in the workshop. To prevent wear on bearings, and more importantly: the shaft, it is very important that the bearings are mounted completely flat in relation to each other. You can do that with these crank presses. Fast and professional. The IceToolz bottom bracket press has an ergonomic handle. The IceToolz article number of this bottom bracket press is 11R3.

IceToolz is a brand that focuses on both the professional and the (better) do-it-yourselfer in the bicycle industry. But the ordinary cyclist also comes into the picture with handy maintenance products and easy-to-use items. IceToolz is a brand where you can find those things that make your hobby as a cyclist or mechanic or as a bicycle craftsman easier. Note the orange detail: choice of the craftsman.

Almost all press-in bearings can be mounted with this IceToolz bottom bracket press. Below is a summary in the knowledge that there are probably already a few bottom bracket types missing. Developments are going very fast and every bicycle manufacturer develops its own bottom bracket. In general, all bottom brackets fit, both the 24mm version and the 30mm version. The IceToolz bottom bracket press also takes into account the Sram GXP bottom bracket, in other words, the 22mm variant can also be pressed in flat with this bottom bracket press.
By mounting the bearings 100% flat with this bottom bracket press, bearings are prevented from squeaking and crunching. Wear of the bearings is also limited by mounting them parallel to each other. Perhaps even more important: this also prevents the bottom bracket from wearing out. The IceToolz bottom bracket press can therefore prevent a lot of misery.
The IceToolz bottom bracket press is suitable for:
BB30, BB86, BB89, BB90, BB91, BB92, Sram GXP, BB386, PressFit and more.

The frame shell in a press fit bottom bracket system has no internal threads. The bore is slightly smaller in diameter than the bottom bracket cups that hold the bearings. This creates an interference fit, also known as a press fit. The bottom bracket is then held in by the pressure created by the interference. To see a review of the various standards, see Bottom Bracket Standards and Terminology.

Many press fit bottom brackets are designed so a removal tool must be seated against the bearing. Striking the tool can cause deformations to the cup and the bearing system, which can negatively affect the performance of the bottom bracket system. It is the assumption of the manufacturers that if a pressed bottom bracket is removed, it should be replaced.

Select the correct removal tool based on the inside diameter of the bearing, which nominally in the same as the crank spindle diameters. For more on tools required, see Bottom Bracket Tool Selection: Press Fit.

Repeat impacting the BBT-30.4 driver until one bearing cup is fully out. Remove the tool from the bike. Reverse the tool in the shell to now push out the other bearing. Slide the blue guide into to the frame shell to center the tool. Strike the end of the driver repeatedly with a steel hammer to remove the last bearing adapter.

For bottom brackets using bearings with an inside diameter between 22mm to 24mm, use the Park Tool BBT-90.3. Insert the small end of the tool through the bottom bracket. Pull until the expanding end clicks and engages inside the bearing cup.

Use a hammer to strike the tool end and drive out the bearing unit. Reverse the remover tool and repeat by driving out remaining bearings. This will possibly leave cosmetic scarring inside the adapter.

Install the small end of the RT-1 through the bearing. Pull it slowly through the bottom bracket until you see and hear the larger expanded end click inside the bearing cup. Use a hammer to strike the end of the tool to remove the cup.

Retaining compounds, such as Park Tool RC-1, are a type of adhesive that hardens and expands once applied, creating a barrier and filling any gaps while providing pressure. Retaining compounds are good at preventing creaking. However it may take more effort to remove, such as mild heat from a hair dryer.

Installation of a press fit bottom bracket is similar to a pressed headset. There are a few tool options and all require a press of some sort. For example, use the Park Tool HHP-2, HHP-3, or the BBP-1.2

Shimano introduced Pressfit to reduce weight of the bottom bracket.
Instead of cups with threads, the bearings are placed inside a plastic housing (diameter van 41 mm) which is then pressed inside of the bike frame. For use with 24 mm cranksets which were originally designed for BSA.

The BBInfinite BB86 DirectFit Shimano bottom bracket works with all Shimano HollowTech road cranksets on the market, from Tiagra to Dura Ace. Our Shimano HollowTech Bottom Bracket ships with the special press tools and retaining compounds you'll need. All you need is the press for this Shimano BB86 PF86 BB.

Our 2-Piece Bottom Bracket system is for any bike that cannot accommodate our 1-piece unit. What would cause this? Easy; any obstruction that cannot be removed that prevents our 1-piece module from passing from one side to the other in a straight line through the frame bottom bracket shell, which includes:

BBInfinite DirectFit Shimano bottom brackets maintain optimal chain-lines for crisp, consistent shifting and drivetrain performance. Duel polymer bearing shields seal out dirt and debris while isolating the steel crank spindle from the steel bearing races to eliminate a major source of creaking.

Our 86.5 mm bottom bracket features a Shimano optimized design that's set to the narrowest stance the crank set allows. This ensures that the interface between the non-drive crank arm and the spindle have the maximum amount of spline engagement and Q-factor is as narrow as possible.

BBInfinite OPD is the answer for creaking bottom bracket problems as well. Pedaling forces conspire to lever, and rock, and eventually work multi-piece systems loose. The unitized nature of BBInfinite OPD cancels these forces out entirely, which means creaking has no place to start in the first place. It really is that simple.

Every BBInfinite module ships with the special press tools, hardware, instructions, and the retaining compound you need to get the job done correctly with ease and confidence. All you need is the press for this BB86 road bike bottom bracket. If you need a press, check out our Master Tool Press.

The SRAM PressFit GXP bottom bracket will make all BB86 specific frames compatible with any and all SRAM/TruVativ GXP 24mm-22mm tapered spindle cranksets. Simply press in the bottom bracket with a quality headset press, the Shimano BB86 press fit tool (not included) or at your local shop and you're ready to install your crankset.

In case you were wondering, BB86 was introduced by Shimano as their internal bottom bracket standard. It requires a frame that has a threadless bottom bracket shell width of 86.5mm with an internal diameter of 41mm.

To grease or not to grease? There seems to be a variety of opinions about whether you should put a bit of grease on it. After reading various topics on various forums I decided to not grease it and press it in dry.

Job done! ?
It went in very smooth. No scary cracking sounds or whatsoever. I feel relieved! ?

(not sure what the difference is but make sure you check the Left/Right marker on the unit as shown in the first image)
