I've been using rivet for a long time with my Xbox 360 with great
success. This week, a new Xbox update was released and now Rivet has
stopped working - both the new version and the older version. Is there
a fix coming? And can I expect it anytime soon?

Thanks.

There were others who expressed the same problems: Here's the whole
thread (Didn't want to lose it when the forums go down)

Jsonthegreat - November 4
I am having this problem as well...

diim - November 5
I wanted to test this product before purchase, I to have the lastest
update for the 360, will it not work at all?

Canasian - November 5
@diim I would try out the demo first if I were you. My experience with
Rivet has been really good up until now. I hope that they're working
on a fix because it's killing my ability to use my xbox as a media
center.

But yeah, its not working at all for me right now.

Mudman - November 5
Ok I just want to make sure I am on the same page, rivet did work, but
now with the update it is not working for me. It started to, but many
of the movies would have an error message and would not play. Also
rivet keeps shutting down, which it didn't before. Is this the xbox
update or am I missing something?

Barry - November 7
Rivet always worked without any problems. Since the latest update I'm
also experiencing problems. It doesn't connect at all...

rodti - November 8
I had some problems with the new Xbox update. All files (regardless of
format) would fail to play with an Xbox status code which I'm afraid I
didn't write down. It might have started with 53. Deleting and
reinstalling the Optional Media Download on my Xbox didn't help. Last
night I quit Rivet, deleted the Rivet .plist file in ~/Library/
Preferences on my Mac, then restarted Rivet. I made sure that the
connection port number was enabled in the Rivet preferences. I then
deleted the Optional Media Download on the Xbox, went to play a video,
downloaded the Optional Media Download as prompted and all video now
seems to play just fine.

Canasian - November 8
I'm in the same boat as Larry. I can't even see my Macs in order to
connect.

prograham - November 8
Same here. Rivet crashes after about 5 minutes of video. Doing what
rodti said did not fix the problem (but thanks for suggestion anyway
rodti). I'm lost without being able to use Rivet!!

Just so the Rivet dev team is aware, this is not a universal problem.
In fact, video over Rivet actually seems to be working BETTER for me
since the Xbox dashboard update.

Works fine for me using OS X 10.6.4 and the fall 2010 box dashboard
update.

So I downloaded two different Optional Media Downloads for the xbox
360, and now Rivet is working normal. I only found the second one
when I went to play an avi or wmv or something that wasn't the
majority of my movies which is mp4. When I went to play the odd kind
of movie file, the xbox asked me to download an Optional Media
Download which I thought was weird since I already had done so
previously. But I downloaded it and then looked at my xbox hard drive
and saw that I had two different Optional Media Downloads. Ever since
I've had both, Rivet has not crashed or stopped playing a movie or
done anything in error.

Just FYI for anyone who might be having trouble. And also just so you
know- I did what "Rodti" suggested (above) before I found both
Optional Media Downloads, so that might be part of the solution.

Was your Xbox able to detect your computer before you did all of this?

I'm having issues after the latest Xbox 360 update. I deleted Rivet's
preference files, and restarted my Mac and the 360, but now the 360
won't even find my Mac on the network.

I have had trouble with Rivet giving the 'spinning rainbow' wheel of
death for 1-2 minutes at times, but it is always responsive again
after a bit.

I have the port-in-name checkbox checked for 360 compatibility, and
have often had trouble connecting before the 360 update (I would have
to quit Rivet on my Mac, then start it again before it would work),
but now I can't get any connectivity at all.

after the update my xbox stopped connecting from rivet too. now,
though, it does not even see rivet. it worked fine (most of the time)
before the update, but it has never done this.

It's been a month since I first posted my problems on here. Is there
still no fix for this?

I haven't been getting any help from Rivet customer or tech support.
So, I went and found a more reliable alternative. It's called Playback
by Yazsoft. It's faster and can handle .mkv's too.
