Hey All
Looks likes a warm tomorrow so let’s ride.
Before I get into more details. I’d really like to discuss respecting other riders on the ride! What I mean by this is when we say do not cross wheels this means do not cross wheels. We have these awesome things on our handlebars called brakes and if you touch it just a little bit it the bike will slow down and allow the rider ahead of you and behind you actual space to ride. The reason this has come up is because I’ve been happening too much on multiple rides and are making other riders very uncomfortable ! I don’t know if you’ve been watching the tour but the Norwegian, who is in the yellow jersey the second day crossed the wheel of his teammate right in front of him cross and he went down hard and he lost the yellow jersey that day so even the pros who know how to ride a bike that’s all they do for a living can’t handle it. I guarantee us normal human beings cannot either Just think if that person crosses your wheel they go down behind you. They will also take 10 to 15 other people behind them down and there’s no benefit to crossing a wheel not more aero, it’s not cooler looking and it’s just not safe. I feel the Riverside Cycle rides are great place for people to show up. Learn the basic rules of the road. Be able to ride on the Monday night group the Tuesday night the Wednesday then the Saturday it’s a progression if the Tuesday night’s not fast enough for you that’s great. That means you have taken yourself to the next level then show up on Wednesday and ride with Doug at the 20-21 average at 38 miles because they only go single file.
That being said, I’m gonna have to start enforcing some of these rules a little bit more dramatically. So there’s another ride leader who leads the Volta ride and he has a term called the velvet Hammer, which means if he sees you doing an infraction of one of the rules, he will ride up to you during the ride or after the ride or before the next ride and call you out on it and say if you do it again you are going to be asked not to show up on the ride again. That’s a little bit too Hammer for me. I’m gonna call you out on the first one, if it happens again on the second one I’m gonna say one more chance, and on the third one I hate to say it I’ll have to ask you to find a new. I can’t have 40 people get injured because somebody’s not following the rules and this goes for everybody so it’s time to get a little bit more serious about this stuff. This is very important to Riverside and to myself, and to the other riders on the ride with us so please read through this if you have any questions feel free to ask. Thanks for reading Tom.
Leaving the shop at 5:30
Let’s keep pace at 19-20 (I heard the week before the pace was extremely fast. Let’s bring it back to reality 19 to 20. That’s still fast enough. If you wanna go faster Wednesday night totally available. Doug is a great leader and it’d be a perfect way to take your body to the next level we’re getting to the season where everyone’s in shape and I totally understand that so give Doug‘s ride a try)
We still do the two same upfront on Wethersfield to keep the line to abreast
Single file on North Street 22 to 24 is OK because in the back that means it’s 27 to 33 (rubber band effect)
Turkey Hill Sprint back to the shop safe, please and no more than two abreast. We can’t go four abreast on the road we can’t.
Thanks, everyone
Tom
