on how to join one of the Riverside Virtual Rides.
How to Join this and Other Riverside RidesTo join, you will need to join RiversideCycle Club in the Zwift Companion app. Go to the main menu in the companion app, tap on Clubs, and then tap on the "All Clubs" tab as shown in the partial screenshot below:
Start typing Riverside into the box that says "Search clubs by name" and tap on the listing that appears named "RIVERSIDECYCLE" (see partial screenshot below):
Tap and join the club. Once you have joined the club, go into the club page and scroll down for a list of club Events where you can select and join this week’s TNR or any other events (see screenshot below)
Tap on the event to open the event page and then tap on the orange plus sign icon (see screenshot below)
Why do this? For three reasons. First, this will cause the event to appear in the Events Section of the main Zwift app's course selection page (it usually appears about 1 hour before the event starts). Second, you will get smart phone and email reminders that the event is coming up soon. Third, if you are warming up on another course prior to the start of the event, Zwift will show you a special button (about 10 minutes prior to the start of the event) that will switch you directly from your warmup session directly into the event. This way, you don't have to manually navigate out of one Zwift session and into another.
There is a Voice Party Line for this Ride
We will use Discord for Group Voice chat during the ride. If you do not already have Discord on your mobile device or computer (whichever you prefer to use for Discord), you will need to install it first if you want to join the conversation during the ride. The event page has two very helpful links right above the map (see screenshot below). When clicked, the one on the left side ("Discord") will whisk you directly into the Riverside Voice Chat on Discord. The one on the right offers helpful Discord tips and tricks.
If you somehow end up on the Riverside Discord Server but you don't think you're in the voice chat, tap or click on "zwift group rides" under the "Voice Channels" section in the Riverside Discord Server (see screenshot below)
Pre-Ride Warmup
It is strongly suggested that you do a pre-ride warm up, even if only for 10 minutes, on one of the other Zwift courses just to get your legs nice and warm. Joining the ride with your cardiovascular system and legs already primed always helps.
On Zwift's course selection page, there's a tile for each course showing details like elevation change and the robopacer's name. In case you didn't already know this, the robopacer's name also determines the robopacer's speed. A ride with Bernie as the robopacer is a good choice for your warmup to the Virtual MNR. If you want to go faster than Bernie, you always can.
Here's a handy dandy chart that shows you their speeds in watts per kg:
Taylor – 1.1 W/kg (82W)
Bernie – 1.5 W/kg (112W)
Miguel – 1.8 W/kg (134W)
Maria – 2.2 W/kg (165W)
Coco – 2.6 W/kg (194W)
Yumi – 2.9 W/kg (217W)
Jacques – 3.2 W/kg (240W)
Genie – 3.7 W/kg (276W)
Constance – 4.2 W/kg (315W)
Hope to see you there!
