Greetings Riders!
Despite the potentially chilly temps, I propose we head out for our 4th ride of the season tomorrow, April 20th. Right now, the weather is forecast to be overcast and a little chilly, with almost no wind. If the weather does not cooperate, I will cancel the ride between 3-4pm in the afternoon.
Once again, I thank you all for reinstating the Monday Night Ride as the designated "Chill Ride." That is, the ride to be used to recover from long weekend rides, get the legs ready for a Tuesday night ride, or become comfortable with group rides. For any newcomers, I will review the Riverside Rules of the Road:
- The 20-mile route MAX speed is 18mph
- The 18-mile route MAX speed is 16mph
- Give different riders the chance to pull if they move to the front
- When riding on a road with a bike lane, stay INSIDE the bike lane
- When riding on backroads, ride NO MORE than two abreast, and hug the inside shoulder
- Announce if you are passing a rider, and pass ONLY on the left
- On narrow roads with sharp corners, stay SINGLE FILE on the corners (Plummers Lane)
- If you hear "CAR BACK!" hug the right shoulder and stay single file until the car passes
- Helmets and REAR LIGHTS are mandatory for ALL riders!
- With the sun still setting earlier, be sure to have a HEAD LIGHT, as well as a rear light
We are delighted to offer two routes to accommodate the preferences of the group. Feel free to do whichever route "floats your bike." Please note that Dave Berlind will be riding as "Sweep" for the shorter ride, making sure there is "no rider left behind."
Below is the map for each of the routes. PLEASE review prior to the ride.
