The Third Annual Moonlight Ride on the Refuge is only a month away – on Friday, October 3 (rain date Friday, October 10)  We will start gathering at 5:00 pm in parking lot #1 (just inside the refuge gate), and then we'll take off together down the refuge road at 6:30 pm. All riders will be back at Lot 1 by around 8:00 pm.

You have two options: a 4.6-mile round trip to the refuge Sub-Headquarters, or a 7-mile round trip all the way to the end of the paved road at Lot #4 (Hellcat Trail).  Either way, be sure to stop for a cup of delicious hot cocoa under the stars at the Sub-Headquarters!

In order to better manage crowding on the road, this year we have set a maximum number of participants. Registration for the Ride is open now, and will close when we reach capacity or on Tuesday, September 30, whichever comes first. (If you try to register after we reach capacity, you will be notified and given an opportunity to email us to be added to the waitlist.)

For more details and to sign up for the ride, go to https://bit.ly/refugeride2025. Remember, you must register to participate!
Act Now to Get Your Moonlight Ride T-Shirt!
Again this year we are selling short-sleeve and long-sleeve T-shirts with the Moonlight Ride image. Proceeds from the sale of these shirts will support our activities, including more community events like this one.

In order to guarantee delivery in time for the Moonlight Ride, orders must be submitted by Wednesday, September 17. We will distribute the T-shirts in Parking Lot 1 before the Ride. If you can't make it to the Ride, we can arrange for you to pick up your shirt at a Newburyport location, or you can have it shipped to you for an additional charge.

Volunteers Wanted!
Our 2023 and 2024 Moonlight Rides were both extremely popular, and we’re expecting another enthusiastic turnout for our Third Annual ride. We’re busy working to ensure that everyone can have the best experience possible. If you can come early to help out (or if you’re not planning to ride) we would love to have your assistance.

Before the Ride starts, we need volunteers to check people in, guide them to parking spots, assemble riders into groups, or otherwise assist with logistics. You can help out with these activities and still participate in the ride – it would just mean getting to the refuge a bit earlier than otherwise.

If you're not planning to ride but would like to participate and enjoy the evening, you can help by serving cocoa at the rest stop or greeting riders at the turn-around point.

If you would like to volunteer, please send us an email and we will get back to you with your assignment.
