Hello!
At the urging of our Vice-President, I am dedicating this update to Golden Guardian. However, I really don’t know much on the subject.
This much I do know. Agencies wishing to participate must fill out a registration form and list your stated objectives to be accomplished in the exercise. See the attached forms. You will need to return these forms back to Diana Rockot with OES. (I have included Diana in this briefing.)
On May 5, 2008, California OES will unveil the entire scenario of Golden Guardian 2008. The unveiling will occur in Ontario.
This much we do know of the exercise. It will commence on November 13, 2008 at 10:00 AM. It will be a 7.8 earthquake on the Southern San Andreas Fault near the Salton Sea. It will disrupt Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, and Ventura Counties. The exercise will react in real time increments on November 13-14, 2008. CERT teams will have their own drill on Saturday, November 15, 2008. (Other than CERT, the exercise will go dark over the weekend.) The exercise will continue on Monday and Tuesday, November 17-18, 2008 with a round table discussions looking at short and long term recovery issues.
On May 21, 2008, Riverside County OES has invited all of us (VOAD Members) to attend an information session about the exercise. It will be at the County Administrative Center located at 4080 Lemon Street, 1st floor Board Chambers in Riverside, CA 92501 from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. The Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Lucy Jones from USGS. Dr. Jones will create a nightmare scenario based on what geologists think will happen. After that…if you still don’t have retirement plans…Riverside County OES will inform us on how we can become involved in the exercise.
Relax…we can do this. Remember, we are better together. This exercise will reinforce the need for collaboration. I strongly encourage all of you to attend the meeting on May 21, 2008. Thanks for your dedication and service.
Good Day!
