Riverside ShakeOut Associates Kick-off Meeting

Dear colleague,
You
are invited to a special meeting on September 2, 10 a.m. to Noon, to kickoff
the Riverside County ShakeOut Regional Associate group, leaders throughout the
County who will work together to encourage the residents of Riverside
County to prepare for big earthquakes and to participate in the The Great
Southern California ShakeOut (www.ShakeOut.org) this November. The meeting
will be hosted by Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack and myself. We have agreed to
co-chair the Regional Associates for Riverside
County.
Similar
Associate groups are being formed in each county. (Two weeks ago, over 80
people attended the kickoff meeting for the San Bernardino group!) You may have received
an invitation to join the Riverside County Associates previously, and if you
haven't joined yet, we hope you now will.
The
meeting will feature Dr. Lucy Jones (USGS) who will give an overview of the
science behind the ShakeOut, and the ways our community can change the outcome
of a great earthquake. Her presentation will be similar to the PowerPoint
available to all Associates for their use in talking to the public, available
after joining.
In
addition, those who attend will discuss the best ways to reach residents of Riverside County about the ShakeOut. Over 2.3
million people have already been registered at www.ShakeOut.org -- led by many
school districts who have committed to have their earthquake drills on November
13. This will generate tremendous awareness and we hope inspire many other
individuals and organizations to register to participate.
The

in future activities.)
