to Riverside County VOAD, Don Read, npa...@earthlink.net

Greetings!

Our next VOAD meeting will be next Thursday, June 12, 2008 beginning at 3:00 PM.  The meeting will be at the United Way of the Inland Valleys located at 6215 River Crest Drive in Riverside, CA 92507.  We have much to discuss.

  1. Our Southern California VOAD has urged us to rethink our position of becoming operational.  By signing an agreement between the County and VOAD, we have become operational instead of a collaboration of operational agencies.  I see Don Read’s point; however, our intent was to improve communication and initiate call out procedures lending to a better response time to emergencies.  At any rate, it is worth revisiting the issue.

  1. This issue along with others has led to a need for a By-Laws committee to review and perhaps make recommendations for changes in the By-Laws or recommend to the membership to stay the course.

  1. Tes Ayenew is leaving us for a better life in Colorado.  He is leaving behind the Treasury post here with VOAD.  We need to nominate and vote on a new Treasure.

  1. We need to decide on a date for the EOC training for our new position within the EOC.  Depending on the “Operational” debate, we may table this training until we hear back from the By-Laws committee.

  1. To my knowledge, only one of our functional groups has met.  We had set a goal for all four of our functional groups to meet at least once before June 12, 2008.  It isn’t too late to meet; but, we may need more clarification on the purpose and goal(s) of meeting as functional groups.

On another note, I have finalized plans to provide Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) on September 26-27, 2008 training here at my church.  I have committed myself to enrolling at least 35 people to take this training.  I believe this is doable with your help.  Promotional material and registration information will be provided in the next communication piece.  This training is for all Disaster Relief Chaplains, Clergy, Fire and Law Enforcement Personnel, along with Counselors and Mental Health Professionals.  Plan to attend this training yourself and invite friends you know in these respective professions.  The cost will be $50 for Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Chaplains and $75 for everyone else.  If you are aware of the cost for CISM training, you know that this is a bargain.

Thanks everyone for indulging me in this shameless plug for one of my projects.  I consider it an honor to serve alongside of you.  I hope to see you next Thursday.
