Ballroom in the Basement
In 1922, shortly after Nathan
Berler moved his family to 809 Riverside Drive, he commissioned architect
George Fred Pelham to design an apartment house for the irregular lot adjoining
his property on the west. As reported in the New York Times Berler’s apartment building would be "of
stucco, brick and tiles in old Italian style.”
