Hello everyone,

Welcome to another year at RIT. For those of you who are returning, here is a quick summary of what's happening:

-Club meetings will be Wednesday nights at 9PM in CPC-2740 during odd numbered weeks of the semester (the first one being this Wednesday, 8/30).

-Jam sessions will be Tuesday nights at 9PM in SAU-A130 during even numbered weeks of the semseter (the first one is 9/6). We will alternate between electric and acoustic, starting with electric.

-Events will be planned and announced soon.

For those of you who are new to the club, here is some more information about what RITSMA does:

-Jam sessions take place every other week on Tuesday nights in the music room. Anyone is welcome to play or listen; all instruments, voices and skill levels are welcome, as well as all styles and ideas. Variety is the spice of life after all.

-The jam sessions will alternate between electric and acoustic. Anything goes in an electric jam session, and we have plenty of microphones to make you loud if necessary (voice, horn instrument, acoustic guitar, etc). Acoustic jam sessions are typically unamplified, although you're welcome to amplify yourself if needed as long as you don't overpower anyone else.

-We host open mics throughout the year. We run the sound for these and they are open to anybody.

-We run two concerts each year, Battle of the Bands and Brickstock. Battle of the Bands happens in the spring, usually with four or five bands performing. The winner gets to headline Brickstock at the end of the year. Our club plans and does all of the sound production for both of these concerts.

-In addition to running sound for our own concerts, we do sound production for other clubs. Many times these are acappella concerts, but we have also done fundraisers, dances and others. Sound production typically involves setting up microphones, a mixing board, amplifiers and speakers, then mixing the sound as the show goes on.

Lastly, please join our Facebook group at facebook.com/groups/RITSMA/. Here you will find lots of information about what's going on with RITSMA. Feel free to post if you want to share music, meet up with people to play, start a band, or whatever.

Best,
