The Vanilla Orchid from Madagascar
The natural flavors of rich, smooth vanilla and nutty almond are infused into premium black tea. The result is a cup that soars into the realm of dessert. Try steeping a strong cup and topping with steamed milk for a creamy tea latte: Steep 2 tea bags in 6 oz. hot water for 5-7 minutes. Add 6 oz. steamed milk. Sweeten to taste. For an iced latte, let cool completely and pour over ice.

It's just so good. If it sounds good to you, get it! The mandarin/vanilla kinda reminds me of juicy fruit gum at first, but then the patchouli is right there being awesome and that is definitely not a food smell. It reads as a sweeter patch to me, but obviously it's blended with fruit and vanilla, so who knows. The black vanilla really opens up with wear - not blackened, btw, just kinda deeper in tone. So good!

Wet, this is realistic mandarin zest, like the spritz of citrus you get when you peel an orange. The patchouli at this stage is really good to me. Combined with the black vanilla, it's sweet and more incense-heavy. As it dries, the mandarin fades and the patchouli takes the spotlight. It morphs into a lighter, more floral patchouli, which isn't really my jam. The black vanilla is light and a little powdery. In the end, it's more delicate than you would expect from the opening. Lightly floral patchouli enshrouded in a cloud of black vanilla powder, finished with a spritz of mandarin.

I adore the wet stage of this perfume, but the dry stage sillage too pretty for me. I think I was hoping for a dirtier patchouli, like the patch in Schrdinger's Checkmark. If you prefer a more delicate and floral patchouli and you like citrus, this mnage is probably a good fit for you.

The patchouli dominates on me. I can't pick out the mandarin on it's own, but there's a citrus zest, almost carbonated quality to the scent. And I can just pick out the vanilla. It's a very woodsy vanilla, not foodie at all. It does bring a sweetness to the patchouli. Overall, a sweet patchouli scent, slightly woodsy, but with a noticeable amount of zest. Pleasant, but not for me, I was hoping for more of a sweet, spicy citrus scent.

This is more about the patchouli (which is a black patchouli) and black vanilla. The mandarin is most noticeable in the beginning, and it's realistic, and you can smell the pith, but sadly, the pith is all that carries over into the drydown on my skin, where it's become mostly black patch and black vanilla with just the ghost of mandarin. Although it's a nice patch and vanilla, I'm not in love with it like I love Banshee Beat/Revenant Rhythm and would not say the are similar scents. Honestly, I just don't know why I'm not swooning over this one -- the patch is smooth and the vanilla really blooms out in a cloud with wear. I guess it's because I was so hoping for a lot more mandarin.

I don't know that I would have bought this on a blind sniff. BPAL mandarin is a chilly sort of citrus here, rendering the bottle very cool and honestly a little intimidating. On my skin, it takes a little while, but the mandarin recedes to the background, the black vanilla warms things up, and makes them almost a little toasty. The patchouli never really comes out to play - it's there but it just grounds the scent and adds to the overall toasty impression. Don't get me wrong, this is not gourmand or foodie-sweet at all, or even particularly cozy, but I went to sleep with the test dab on my hand, and it was really nice when I woke up. I'll have to try it again in a few months and see how it's changed.

I don't love this as much as I thought it would, and I have given it some time to rest in the hopes that it would wow me with a little time to settle. Patchouli and vanilla are my two favorite scents, and I don't even find them to be distinctive in this blend. I might never guess that there's patchouli in this at all because I really have to search for the hint of it in the drydown. Mostly this smells sour and hazy white, like the scent/taste of orange pith. I guess there's some vanilla sweetness, but it's more of a vague sweetness, like a sprinkle of sugar trying to make the orange more palatable. It kind of smells like sour orange, sharp white musk, and sugar.

Vanilla pods come from the vanilla orchid, a vine-like plant that originates in Mexico and Guatemala. The hand-pollinated flowers produce ripe fruits after eight months, then undergo a curing process that can take several months.

Much like my beloved Raspberry Hibiscus Green Tea blend, there was also a black tea blend I loved to buy at a little store where we used to live. I figured it can't be hard to get the ratios right to make it myself, saving money in the process.

Vanilla and black tea are a classic pairing in my mind. Too many of the ones I tried contained "natural flavouring" that did NOT agree with my families' stomachs. So many things can be hidden under the "natural" umbrella that I just feel better making it myself.

To me, this tea screams for honey and milk. It's such a treat to enjoy a mug on a cold winter morning after I've finished my chores. It's also perfect for when I want to sneak in some quiet reading time in an afternoon.

Black tea is generally stronger in flavor than the less oxidized teas. Tonganagaon Assam tea steeps a cup some describe as silky smooth with light notes of spice and malt, along with some toasty nuances. Black tea contains caffeine.

At under $5 Canadian for 4 ounces of Assam, it is SO much cheaper for me to make my own vanilla bean black tea than buy it! You really are paying for companies to mix up some ingredients and throw them in a bag for you when you could just have a jar on the shelf ready to go.

This batch makes about a pint jar of dried tea. You can easily double it to keep it on hand for longer. If you've never brewed loose tea before, you'll just want to have a tea ball around (usually stainless steel or mesh) or you can buy single filter packs. We also use a French press as our "teapot" to easily strain the tea after brewing. For brewing a single mug, we love this tea strainer.

This is such an amazing idea! It's so delicious ? This and your other tea posts have also inspired me to try replicating some of my favorite tea blends. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and ideas ???

Hi, I'm Kate! Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family lives on a 34 acre homestead in northern BC, Canda and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables.

Tea Fort Orchid Vanilla black tea is harvested from the foothills along the border of Laos and Myanmar (Burma) in the Yunnan Province which is recognized for its ideal tea growing conditions: red, fertile soil, a misty and humid climate and a constant average year round temperature. It is reputed as offering among the best of China's black teas, known for its delicate leaves and number of buds. This smooth, medium bodied, black tea is married with sweet vanilla from Madagascar, an island off the east coast of Africa known for the producing the highest quality vanilla in the world. The coconut pieces add a touch of tropical flavor that finish off this sought after black tea.

We all know and love this flavour; memories of sipping on a cherry cola. The combination of cherry and vanilla on the nose is juicy and sweet. We made this Botany with real cherries and vanilla, making this beverage smooth and refreshing with just the right amount of spark.

I love the Sparkling Botany Waters! They are not too sweet and very refreshing. The Cherry and Vanilla...Cucumber, Lemon and Lime and my most favourite White Peach & Cardamom are always in stock in our home. They are a constant hit at our summer get togethers. Lovely!

As a huge fan of Summer House, I knew I had to try Loverboy for myself. So far I have only been able to try the variety pack flavors but I love them all. So refreshing and the flavors are really great! I am so excited to see the brand expand into more stores. Just picked up the Espresso Martinis to try!

Reminds me of Vanilla Cherry Dr Pepper, but without the sugar (and hard, to boot!) I buy the variety pack just to get this one flavor--I really hope they start selling Black Cherry Vanilla by themselves!
