Hello Everyone,

The debate went really well Friday. We're busy putting up lots of
resources for it. There's a link in this e-mail about it.

We're meeting this Wednesday, the 23rd of January in building 06
(Liberal Arts building) in room 3214. We'll be winding down from the
debate during this meeting. We're going to start planning for Darwin day
at this meeting and over-analyzing our performance at the debate.

New members are welcome!

Hey guys.

I attended the debate and I wanted to say that I was very impressed
with both sides. I think that you both were very respectful of each
other, and that a lot of ideas were put out. I was a little
disappointed with the crowd, but what can you do about that?

Anyways, I was talking with some of the other leadership in Campus
Crusade, and we were wondering if you would like to have a similar
debate/panel/whatever you want to call it next year. I think we would
be up for it, but wouldn't want to do it this year.

Thank you for being so respectful, and I look forward to talking to
you more.

Hi Joe:
Actually you aren't the first party to talk to us about that... You're the fourth...

The RIT debate society want to at some point do a panel discussion with multiple different religious clubs on "some topic" and webcast it.

Dr. Merideth wants Pt. II to be the same debate but between him and another professor.

Another professor wants a panel of professors each with specialties in different fields, discussing the compatibility of science and religion.

Inter Varsity also said they were discussing what "part II" should be.

We'll consider your offer at our next meeting and try to get back to you... What we might end up doing is asking all the interested parties to do some sort of meeting to discuss what the best follow up should be best.

At this point tho, organizing four separate but similar events seems like overkill and is probably outside our powers to organize, so we hope that at some point we can all agree on the best follow up.

I am glad that so many people want to do a follow up... Either it means that the first one totally sucked and was insufficient,  or people thought that it stirred enough discussion to be worth continuing.
Thanks,

Well, we were thinking next year for a few reasons. One- we don't want it to seem like competition with IV. 2- We wouldn't want to overkill this kind of debate. 3- There seems to be a lot of interest outside of our groups and 4- a lot of the people from our group who attended really enjoyed it and would like to see more.

I know that I personally could not make it to your meetings... I have to work. However, we would be planning for a long time in the future anyway, so we could even hold off until the summer and see how we feel then.

See why I was so insistent that we press for this debate? :-D Thank
you for doing so and really following through. Also thanks to IVCF for
finally accepting. Additionally, thanks to everyone involved -
production/camera crew, professors, etc.

Man, I was blown away by the number of people there. Some members of
the crowd were a little out of line but overall the event went
extremely well, far exceeded my expectations! I'm REALLY excited about
all of these new possibilities for the future and all of the interest
this has generated. After all, sparking interest and discussion is the
main goal as far as I'm concerned (at least in the religious
category).

I agree both sides gave good answers (though I could easily explain to
someone why IVCF failed and that we won overall). But provisionally
accepting IVCF's base (the Christian framework), the rest of their
arguments were decent, for the most part. Skeptics, I was quite
satisfied with your performances. Thanks for representing us so well!
I think we chose the right people to be on the panel this time.

What the - it's 5 AM? I don't believe it, the time displayed on my
phone is insufficient evidence.. err, the sky is beginning to turn
blue. Crap! GNITE!

One more thing, I can't make this meeting yet again (more midterms and
projects!).

But the music - please take a vote / decide upon which MP3 you'd like
to use as soon as you can so I can let Mr GAWN know. Thanks!

(the instrumental version of "Discredit It" is uploaded to this group
as requested)

So at our meeting we talked about it and decided to provisionally schedule one big debate per year. We'll open it up to anyone who wants to challenge us to a debate, and vote on who we want to do the debate with.
I was wondering if there were any other topics that you thought you guys could debate? We already did the God debate and it might be more fun to try something a little different... Maybe "Science V. Creationism", Church State separation, "Can you be good without god", "validity of biblical archeology", triclavianism vs biclavianism, etc?

Thanks,
Jon
